Told the Teacher at Preschool about Lucy's "condition" today and was made to feel...
like a lepar (sp!)

For those of you not up to date this is what she has http://www.damsels.org/forum/showthread.php?t=92365
I felt i should tell the Nursery as apparantly its very contagious and spreads easily amongst little children. I printed off the link in the thread above to let them know a bit about it, seeing how it says its common in nursery children i was VERY surprised that NONE of the Teachers had ever heard of it.
They were all running round telling Lucy don't touch this, don't touch that
and they had a sandpit out today (honestly they've NEVER had sand out before) and she got really upset as they wouldn't let her play in it.
They were sorting through the kitchen looking for antibac spray for the toilet seat etc etc
I just felt like i'd gone in and told them she had nits or something. There is nothing i can do about what she has, and the Dr said not to keep her off Nursery, she could have the spots for the next 18 months and there is NOWAY i'm keeping her off that long iyswim.
I just feel really bad now and i know they're going to be sending a letter out to the other Mums, will they name WHO has it?? Its just that none of the Mums really talk to me
and i imagine they'll all start talking behind my back as they'll be able to confirm to each other that their kids DON'T have it iyswim and they'll all know its us

Re: Told the Teacher at Preschool about Lucy's "condition" today and was made to feel...
Oh thats terrible , I would be furious and demand they treat her normally and the condition sensitively and perhaps do some research before they treat her like a leper, or i would remove her from their care. My friends little boy had this I'm sure they saw a homeopath for something to put on them but i could be wrong. They shouldn't name who has the condition as it is confidential and they have acted quite unprofessionally IMO, I'd be furious if they acted like that if she had nits too
poor Lucy being stopped from doing what she usually does
at ignorant nursery staff

I didn't see the link PF - didn't have time, but I'm presuming it's molloscum contagiosum?
Tell them not to be so stupid, yes it's contagious but like nits you can't exclude a child from school for it. We did have it, but ours went fairly quickly. They shouldn't be running around telling her not to touch things etc. They won't name her (think of the legal comeback!) but I would be upfront about it and anyone that commented I would mention that my child had it IYSWIM - don't act like it's a "dirty" problem, because it isn't and lots of school age kids get it.
and congrats on your little boy
I saw the thread but was just logging on from work so couldn't post!

WSS - that's awful the way they reacted

I would make a serious complaint to the nursery manager about the staff's behaviour and the way Lucy was treated - ignorant beyond belief
Hope things settle down and Lucy isn't affected by the hoo-hah

I agree that they have overreacted - hopefully they will calm down and see sense. Perhaps you could print off some literature for them to look at. The school shouldn't name the child who has an infection but if you are not 'in' with the other mums the chances are that they will work out (or perhaps more accurately, presume) that it is Lucy. Therefore make sure you are armed with information.
A homeopath would be able to treat the 'condition' and also clear up an ezcema. Remember that ezcema is the skins way of telling you something is wrong with the body. It could just be a food intolerance or an imbalance.
I had to go into preschool last year and tell the teacher that K had suspected worms. The teacher handled it very well but it was embarassing watching them throw away all the playdough/sand etc.

Thanks everyone, i thought i may have been over reacting, tbh if i didn't know about it and heard that someone at Nursery had it i would probably be a bit
about it myself
Am going to check online to see if i can see any herbal remidies as i THINK she's had one come up on her little face
and i really don't want it to spread anymore

Calendula ( marigold ) extract is a good one for all round anti fungal/bacteriacidal remedy ( I know ti tri is more well know if you can stand the smell) I've use it in essential oil form in Aromatherapy treatments but I've seen Calendula cream etc in health stores?

You can buy Calendula cream in the chemists
Graphites cream is also good for the skin
Tea tree oil applied with a cotton bud would dry them up (however dont apply to cracked skin)

I'm late to this and didn't know Lucy was suffering with this. Just to say one of my minded kids has it and I'm perfectly happy about it.
