When did you introduce a book...
As part of the bed time routine?
For the life of me I can't remember with Lulah
but I think it was quite early on...
As Tabitha gets more efficient at feeding I think we'll have a nice gap in which we could do a wee story (before the feed?
) and I just wondered when is a good time (don't want to overstimulate her before bed and find she can't get to sleep
).
What did you do?
Thanks

Re: When did you introduce a book...
I tried several times with F, but she just got completely overexcited by it all, now shes nearly 2 she often chooses to take a book to bed with her and 'reads' it to herself before she drops off. She still gets completely hyped up if I try and read her a story though.
I should probably point out that last week her 'book' of choice was the toys r us catalogue

Re: When did you introduce a book...
was about 10 or 11 months with Euwyn.
For Brett it was 9 months & Toby will get one as soon as the boys room is ready (which we want to be before Christmas so he'll be 8.5 months)

Re: When did you introduce a book...
I havent with aaron yet, its impossible cos all he wants to do is grab the book and turn all the pages so I cant read it
Kenidee has asked if she can do his bedtime story
so when I know he wont be grabbing at the book she will be doing it

Re: When did you introduce a book...
We've done it since Matthew was about 6 weeks old. We read his story once he's in his cot (after his bottle) - he used to just lie there and listen but now he stands up and looks at the pictures
It seems to help him wind down for sleep, although he's now started crying as soon as DH says 'all was quiet in the deep dark wood' at the end of The Gruffalo, as that's his favourite and he doesn't like it to end

Re: When did you introduce a book...
I did it pretty much from birth with both girls.
I love cuddling up for story time

Re: When did you introduce a book...
I tried a few times with T and it was a total failure as he just kept trying to shred the book and then getting stroppy cos I wouldn't let him
Its only the last couple of months that it has been working, so say 14 months ish?no matter how far you have travelled down the wrong road, you can always turn around.

Pretty much the same here. Betty's always pooped by bedtime and I don't think she'd stand for being read a book and having to wait for her milk!

Re: When did you introduce a book...
Pretty much from birth with Alex and as I'm feeding Jacob during bedtime for Alex it's the same.
I just sit on the sofa in Alex's room feeding Jacob and reading !

Re: When did you introduce a book...
I haven't done this and probably won't till I struggle to get her to bed tbh.
However, she LOVES me reading to her and she loves books and brings them to me so she gets loads of reading during the day instead.

Children need love, especially when they do not deserve it. ~Harold Hulbert
Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see. ~Neil Postman, The Disappearance of Childhood (introduction), 1982
When childhood dies, its corpses are called adults and they enter society, one of the politer names of hell. That is why we dread children, even if we love them, they show us the state of our decay. ~Brian Aldiss

Re: When did you introduce a book...
DS was 18mths when DD was born. We started a bedtime sory routine before she was born to make the bedtime routine an experience that we could share.
When DD was born and DS went back to work I used books a lot. We could snuggle and read a book while I breastfed DD.
My first child, DS, was a grumpy baby so I read to him often whether it be the local paper or a story book, it settled him.DS July 2003, DD1 January 2005, DD2 August 2008

Re: When did you introduce a book...
DS is now four and a hlaf, he loves books. he has just started big school. They said that they would be given picture books to 'get them used to books'. DS is already passionate about books. He likes stories but now prefers books about animals, dinosaurs and birds.

Re: When did you introduce a book...
From very early with DS1, but from about 10 months wiht DS2 I think, when he went in to share with his brother

He was really not bothered to start with, but is really into it now, choosing his books and which one of us he wants to read to him
