What can I do with Laura for Halloween?
I haven't heard of anything in the local community happening for LOs. There used to be a disco for LOs in the village hall, but apparently the PTA stopped it for Health and Safety reasons (er.......
). Anyway, I haven't been informed of anything at the nursery, and I want to do something with her. Heck half the point of having kids is to relive all this stuff again, plus I want her to start learning about what little festivals we do have.
I live too rurally for trick or treat really (and know it's no longer considered ok by a lot of people). We'd have to drive to every house which would take the fun away.
What can we do - a little party at home? Or is that a bit odd? I don't want to make loads of work for myself by having lots of LOs round, especially given the state of my house (make that building site) right now........

I think a little party at home would be a really good idea, even if it is just the three of you. Make some Halloween goodies together and have fun!

Re: What can I do with Laura for Halloween?
Seeing as i've never allowed my children to go trick or treating, but also not wanting them to miss out, a few years ago I started a tradition of throwing a halloween party. No invites... just them.
The three of them get dressed up in halloween costumes. I lay a buffet for them to pick at themselves.... local bakers usually do fab halloween cupcakes and cookies, I download some spooky music screensaver from the web, turn off the lights and have that playing in the background.
Then I hit a fancy dress shop and buy fake spiders and spiderweb and decorate the house. They join in by cutting out ghost shapes that we stick on mirrors and windows.
And of course we always hit the local garden centre for a pumpkin and spend an afternoon digging that out before we put a tealight in for the party.
I started this about 5 years ago. They are 12, 10 and 7 now but they still LOVE it!!!

There's Halloween stuff on at Castle Fraser & Fyvie & Drum & Crathes and the Wickerman at Archeolink.

Great ideas. Noo noo I will look into those things. I wonder whether they are night time/weekend etc. - the grandparents are arriving late Saturday afternoon, something on on the Sunday would be perfect (although I guess Halloween is Wednesday...)

Do you have one or two neighbours you could arrange to knock at? You could even give them the sweets to give her if that would help them!
Otherwise a walk with torches to look for bats?
Carving pumpkins and bobbing apples at home is all I can think of otherwise.

I think I'm going to do a halloween tea for my lot.
We'll be having eyeballs in jelly, marshmallow spiders and any other halloween food I can think of.
Games so far are:
Bandaging eachother up as mummies
Pin the witch on the broomstick
Ghost hunt
FInding halloween sweets buried in squirty cream (bit like bobbing apples)'We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing'
