    Stage 1: L's bedroom

Ok, I think that I want L's room to be restful and calm, as he is a frantic little thing

Also, it will be the nursery should I have another baby.

The room is 11"5' x 10"11', with a huge south facing bay window on one of the 10'11 walls.

I have all of this from J that I will put in there

He has a white cot and white changing unit.

I want to chose a nice material for curtains that will be OK with white for now, and the above when J moves into his regular single bed and new bedding (see other thread ), and L gets all of this.

I also want a nice height chart - ideally wood, as J has one and there isnt much room for both of them to be written on there.

I did think about a green gingham with red trim for his curtains to be a bit different and I that combination, but will it go with the above?

I may ebay the rug or something to tone down the blues........

And what colour for the walls? I dont want dark colours on the walls.......

TBH I think that the colour scheme you have now is so lovely I wouldnt change it, especially if you plan on moving L into J's room in the near future.

Who knows, you may need to be decorating it pink next year? For that reason I'd keep the walls neutral and use your accessories to add colour. Its a lot easier to change your bunting than paint a room!

    Re: Stage 1: L's bedroom

    Thanks for the reply Sunshine

BUT we are moving to a new home. L's room is currently apricot, but I will repaint it.

The blinds in the pics above stayed in our old flat (and the bunting) as our buyer liked it.

It seems silly to get the same curtains again or maybe I should?

I will paint the walls neutral - probably a creamy colour, but apricot is a bit girly

Smiley I think you're right about the walls but for a diofferent reason. I think the apricot is a little warm for those colours. I would either go for more of an off-white or a coldish pale sand colour.

The bedding looks like a a sort of beach hut type esign? Puts me in mind of the seaside
Is that a red gingham lampshade? If so I think red gingham curtains would be cool. Go more with the red aspect of the colourcheme then its more gender-neitral in case theres a girly later on?

Will this be a play and sleeping room? If so you might want to go rugless as I find they get in the way of play a bit. That would also make the room more gender-neutral IMO.

Is that any help? I'm rubbish at this - but I do know what I would do IYKWIM?

OMG! Nicky you are a star

I love that red Laura Ashley gingham, and the stripey ticking I think the middle paint in too yellowy but the others look good - I need to get testers.

I love all of these too.........

    It is this http://www.thewhitecompany.com/department2.aspx?DepGrpCode=CHD&DepCode=BORC

It was expensive, so I want to use it for L.

Will this be a play and sleeping room? Both. J has a larger room so they will probably play in there more, but as they are older and have their own friends over, L will want his own play-space (unless they are sharing )

If so you might want to go rugless as I find they get in the way of play a bit. That would also make the room more gender-neutral IMO. I did think of selling it on ebay as it wil make a good price, and it is a bit small in the room.

    Re: Stage 1: L's bedroom

Oooh those drapes are shocking aren't they?!!! I wonder why on earth she painted the peachy strip around the top of the room - just draws attetion to a part of the room surely you wouldn't want to look at??? And why paint it like that into the window recess like that?

Seeing as you have a semi-bay type window then blinds might be better than curtains? I can't what the name of the type I am thinking of are...

This sort, roman blinds in the ticking maybe?...

  16. #16

    Re: Stage 1: L's bedroom

Nicky - that is what I think .... nice roman blinds, which will be a nice clean line and easy to adapt to different decor if I had another baby

    Those blinds are aren't they?
    And what about the light

That is the only light in there, totally off center in the window

We are removing it and having spotlights put in.

    Re: Stage 1: L's bedroom

Thats exactly what I would do Smiley.

You know I've actually gone totally off central ceiling lights since living here. It seemed v odd when we first moved in, but the living room here has no central light, just two sockets for lamps either side of the mantlepeice. Plus we've added lots of other lamps too and light candles, etc. If I were a in front of TV cratfer it might annoy me, but really we don't need bright bright light in our lounge so this makes it a truely relaxing place. We've also lowered the wattage of lots of our lights around the house.

    Re: Stage 1: L's bedroom

I decided not to have spots in the lounge / dining room, but to have them in the boys rooms as it avoids the hunt for a light

    Re: Stage 1: L's bedroom

I saw those cushions in Debenhams last week, along with some gorge ones with soldiers on, and ..... you know what, I'll just post the pics

So I am thinking a nice cream wall, his white cot and changer, and a 2 of the soldier cushions, 2 toy boxs and the hooks.

And then some nice blinds like Nicky posted....

    what do you think?
