    Thinking about next summer

I know it's early but realistically it's going to be our next holiday

So, Alex will be 5yrs so no problem there really, and the new baby will be about 8 or 9 months. Where ever we go will have to be either May 1/2 term (in which case the new baby will only be 6-ish months) or in the summer holidays with Alex being at school and DH being a teacher.

Any ideas or recs ? Not sure about budget yet - won't be masses as I'm cutting hours when I go back.

We were thinking maybe a cottage in the UK - we're quite fancying the West country. I'm not sure about taking a teeny one to the Med even though we'd quite like a sunny holiday.

I feel your pain on the holiday front.

I don't know about the UK but just to say I went to Majorca last year when Isabel was 8 months and it was fine, no problems at all. I would recommend it and I would most certainly go again - only thinking stopping me this year is the thought of OH and I both having to have a baby on our lap for the flight so we are waiting until after Isabel is 2.

Does Dorset count as the West Country?

We have been for the last two summers (and are going again this year) to a cottage with friends and their children. We have a great time during the day on the beach etc with the children, then bung them all in bed and have nice grown up evenings with loads of nice food and wine in the garden of our cottage.

We book through www.english-country-cottages.co.uk Ours is £1200 for the week, so £600 per family (although we have already booked a FAB one with a pool for next year, a bit more expensive at £2000 for the week).

As much as I have loved the holidays that dh and I had pre-children, I can't be arsed with airports etc with two toddlers. We've always had good enough weather in this country in August, and there are lots of nice things to do in Dorset; the beaches are lovely.

Oh Dorset would do nicely I'm sure ! Off to have a look at that website. I hadn't thought bout Ireland either - DH would love the beer aspect of that

CL it's the thing about having a 5yo and a baby to entertain on a flight and having them on your lap that doesn't appeal to me.

Yes I can completely understand. Its a real pain having them on your knee.

Dorset is lovely, we go every year at least once!!

    I'd recommend Dorset as well.

We went last year, Ellie was nearly 5 and Grace was coming up to a year.

We stayed near Corfe Castle and there was masses to do, that both girls could do.

We found a little rockpool beach where we spent the day with little fishing nets, there's a farm park, the beaches at Studland and Swanage are lovely.
