    . Salad Munchers - HOW do you get full?



    I love salad sometimes as its so fresh and tasty and easy for lunch but it never ever fills me up.

    Today, I had lettuce, 1/3 tin of chickpeas warmed through, three good handfulls of beansprouts, five little potatoes (hot), some chopped pepper, a slice of cheese and some salsa and just an hour and a half later I'm sooo hungry. Its not even in my head, I feel fully satisfied, its my actual tummy which is aching and rumbling from apparent starvation.

    I'm sure if I'd made the same exact same ingredients into chickpea burgers with cheese in, fried little potatoes and a side salad I'd be full, but those ingredients as a salad I'm just not.

    SO... how DO you get full from a salad?

    Am off out now to buy some crisps...

    Try adding more protein? More tuna/chicken etc?

    No idea hon. I always end up sticking to carbs for lunch which is probably why they button on my jeans is hard to do up!

    Would be interested to see waht others say though!

    Are you veggie? Perhaps a sprinkling of nuts. Or a salad without lettuce (lettuce never fills me up). Just beans and veg. Celery and sweet corn are good things to bulk salads out with too.

    Oh. I'm veggie... should have said! And I don't like boiled or fried eggs. Maybe an omelette, but then that tends to makes omelette with salad more than a salad. Hmmm.

    i agree, protein would help. eta: or not

    or what about having half a bagel or a wholemeal pita with it? or baked sweet potato?

    or just having more....

    Yeah, maybe some more substantial veg and less lettuce would be good. Hmm. I'm not keen on nuts really but maybe some seeds would be ok, I guess that'd up the protein more too. It was a HUGE plateful I assure you, but obviously still not enough. It was tasty in any case.

    I've got a couple of recipes for different bean salads if you're interested. Also, what about pasta salad or rice salad to add some carbs?

    Ooh yeah! Bean salad recipes would be lovely please!

    I'm such hard work - I don't have an oven or microwave (just pans) so no nice baked pots for me and I avoid bread because I just eat it all in one go. I ate my little loaf of 15 slices in two days the other day so I just avoid having any bread in the house at all as much as poss because its just too dangerous!
