Any temps out there?
I used to temp for years. It had its good points, and its bad points.
Good points were that I never had to get involved in office politics, or get stuck with people I didn't like. Bad points were going for jobs that turned out to be awful. A few times I left at lunchtime and refused to go back.
Summer was always a busy time though. Anyone being "the temp" ATM?Call me (Mrs) Damz

I work part time (well, on mat leave atm) but when I was a SAHM with No2 I used to temp to keep my hand in, only two/three days a month but it kept me up to date with what was going on in the world.
They still call me for one or two companies, who I now know very well, all their staff etc and I will do perhaps one day a week. It's easy money (but not particularly good  ) and I get a laugh with people I know, but don't see too often - so I don't get sick of them
People can be bloody rude to temps - one guy called me "whatsherface" to my face (as in "tell whatsherface" what to do) and another told me to "get off my arse and find X" when I'd only been there 2 minutes! But on the whole people are ok, and I have got various jobs through temping. Never walked out though, but I like the freedom to do so if I wish.

I've been 'temping' for a year now - as a nurse so not quite the same as in an office environment. Most of the time, staff are accommodating and just glad that someone has turned up to help out. You do get some places where they whole-heartedly resent you - but who can blame them when you get paid a premium to walk in and out without ever having to deal with the politics or problems on a deeper level.
I have to say that I actually loathe being employed on a temporary basis and would much prefer a permanent contract, but in the year that I've been looking, I haven't found a job advertised which is specific to my career path. But then I've also walked out of one which was office based in that time!!!
But that was for the sake of my sanity as well as Ellie who hated me working office hours
Now with the major cash crisis and job cuts happening, it's looking more and more like nursing isn't the job for life it always was before.
Although, much to my excitement - god I'm sad!!! - I've seen today after a tip off, there are jobs in my chosen speciality 30 miles away from my front door!! That may seem like a long way, but since I was considering commuting 50 miles to London for work, I'm a little bit ecstatic - hence why I had to post!!
I really am that sad!!!!!!
Ahem, slightly off topic, but still a temp so thats why I posted!!!

I've temped in the past, although not for sometime now.
Overall, I enjoyed it - met lots of people and got experience working for different companies. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the circumstances arose.
The only bad thing about being a temp is having to deal with an agency. :x
