feeling a bit sad
My MIl just informed me that a mutual friend has walked out on her partner with the two kids.
He was deceitful towards her and has a gambling problem.
I feel sad as the children are only young.
Any ideas on how I can cheer her up?
Giving that I'm not in the best place at the moment for that. They are staying with her mum. I haven't seen the friend for a bit but would like to do something without infringing on them.

Oh, that is sad. If it was me, I would contact her and offer my support and friendship in any way she needs it. A phone call or a note to start with, but something so that she know's you're her friend and offering support.

Just letting her know you are there and she only need ask if you can do anything.
It must be very difficult for her atm, and I know if it were me I would be grateful that friends had got in touch and offered a shoulder. Her friends and family are everything she needs right now.
Lots of love to her hon x
