I want a home birth this time

    Am i mad??

I had Katie in Wigan hospital and because there was meconium in my waters i ended up being constantly monitored on the bed, which resulted in Katie turning back to back which she had not been throughout my pregnancy at all, in my opinion the pain from this and not being able to move around made me feel the need to have an epidural and then ended up on a drip and having forceps etc etc etc.

I just felt completely out of control of my birth and had everything i didnt want. I couldnt sleep in the stupid hospital and the midwife made out on my first night that i had no other option but to let them take katie to the nursery for the night as i wouldnt be able to tend to her, more like it was easier for them!

Anyways my reasons for home birth are:

Want some one to one care (didnt get it at all last time - felt alone)
Want to feel more relaxed and in charge of my own labour
Dont want to have to leave katie (when i've never left her before) and come home with a 'new' baby
Want to get into my own bed with my little family
Dont want to have to leave my dogs whilst i labour and whilst OH comes to visit us in hospital
Also would like to really steer clear of epidural this time if can absolutely help it.

Anyone else thinking of having one?

    Yay go for it girl!

If I'd have know ds2 was going to be so straightforward I would have considered it. If (and it's a big if!) we have number 3 then I really would consider it.

Re: I want a home birth this time

I had one and it was a truly positive and amazing experience. I did get two on one care and it was great being left to my own devices, making tea and coffee, going for a wee, hving a bath or something to eat when i wanted.

Being at home was actually a good distraction because i had loads of other stuff around.

I would say go for it to I'll never have anything different now if i can help it!

Yes - I want a home birth this time.

I've had 2 very different births both in hospital. DS was delivered by forceps and I had an epidural. He had the cord wrapped around his neck 2 times and was pretty tangled up.

DD was delivered on gas and air. Didn't leave home to go to hospital until 5.00 and she was born at 6.39! So I really didn't need to go in except for the gas and air - and the most annoying thing was they wouldn't let me out again. I had raised bp and the doctor wanted to talk to me but was taking so long to arrive that eventually I discharged myself.

So bp allowing I want a home birth this time.

Re: I want a home birth this time

I would love a home birth just to be in my own surroundings, and at the end can just climb into my own bed with the baby but I'm a weakling and don't think that I could handle the pain, and need to know that the option of getting something stronger would be available.

I think you should go for it!

Re: I want a home birth this time

I say , i nearly had a homebirth with K but got transferred at 9 cms as he was breech, so i almost did i say it was much better, i had no pain relief but it was great!!!! He was also back to back and was great as i could just kneel everytime i was having a contraction, and the midwives were great, even though he was hanging out when i got to hospital so it was pointless being transferred, it was a great experience, and i would defo say go for it
