    Swollen!

    Hi all,

Fairly new to this place but hope you can help.

My lower legs, ankles and feet have swollen up. I know this is really common during later pregnancy but has anybody had this as early as I am? I'm sitting with my feet up but its not helping much. it's very uncomfortable!!

    Thanks xx

    Re: Swollen!

My ankles and feet have been really swollen today too - and yesterday for that matter. I'm not happy about it at all - I wasn't expecting this at this stage yet, although I do tend to suffer with swollen ankles in the summer anyway. I thought I'd get another few weeks yet before having to worry about this too. It's not even been that hot today and I've been sitting down all day, so there really is no excuse!

    Re: Swollen!

The heat makes it much much worse - I have been lucky to escape until the last couple of weeks but am now unable to find any shoes that fit properly The only good thing that came out of my mammoth hospital stay was that I was given some TED stockings (to prevent a clot in the veins in my legs cos I was not very mobile) and one side effect is that they have kept the swelling at bay. in fact, I brought them home with me and am currently looking EXTREMELY attractive Flight socks may work in a similar way......
Apparently reflexology can help and I always find that my swelling is better after my antenatal yoga class. Make sure you have your legs up when in bed (pop a couple of cushions under your ankles) as that will help too.
Mention it next time you see the madwife - occasionally it's a sign of pre-eclampsia but usually there are other signs or symptoms (headache, visual disturbance, tummy ache).

    Re: Swollen!

Thanks girls, I've been sitting with my feet up for most of the evening and it has helped slightly. Its not been overly hot here and our flat is very cool so that helps. I've got my booking in appointment next thursday so I'll speak to the midwife then if it carries on.

    Thanks again xx
