    . I have booked a private scan

I had my pregnancy confirmed by my GP late last week. I had lots of spotting and bleeding during my first pregnancy and managed to get a few early scans. I asked my GP if there was any chance of an early scan on the NHS to put my mind at rest. Unless I start bleeding then there is no chance (obvious really considering all the redundancies etc in the NHS) Last time it really put my mind at rest when I saw Oliver's heart beating.

I have just booked a viability and dating scan at a private clinic and we are going a week on Tuesday. Its costing us £95 but DH has said that he would pay double if it gives me piece of mind. I am on constant knicker patrol

Re: I have booked a private scan

I think all women should be offered a "reassurance" scan by the NHS - although I know it's completely impractical from an NHS point of view.

I mc'ed this time last year and when I was first pregnant with Josie, I went to the GP and asked for a reassurance scan - she agreed that I should have one (as it was really upsetting me to wait til 14 weeks) but was unable to arrange one as I'd had no bleeding, despite a previous history of m/c.

I arranged a private scan and it was fab, totally put my mind at rest that there was a heartbeat. As luck would have it though I bled the next day and the MW slotted me in for an NHS scan - when the midwife at the hospital said that they would happily do reassurance scans - just the "powers that be" (ie the purse holders) wouldn't allow it.

    Enjoy your scan PL

I asked for an early scan as I have had 3 m/c's ... was told I couldnt have one, but as fate would have it I started bleeding (At 6.5 weeks) and got the scan - But the stress prior to the bleed, was horrific. And had I had to wait until the 1st official scan at 13 weeks, I would have been out of my mind. Would definately have paid to go private.

Have since had 2 private scans, 1 to tell the gender, and another to get some fabulous 4d pics

Can't believe that tonight I am finally going into hospital to meet my long awaited baby !!!!
I got a bottle of Jack Daniels tonight for my Husband... bloody good trade if you ask me

Re: I have booked a private scan

I too think ALL women should get a reassurance scan, especially those who have had a m/c no matter how many they've had or how long ago they happened.

When i was pg with Lu i only got 1 scan and that was at 15+2 those 1st weeks NOT KNOWING were awful and i was worried sick that it had two heads or something.

Then as the pregnancy progressed and others were having their 20 wk scans i was scared there was something wrong with bubs. I asked the mw if i could have another scan because i was concerned that something could be wrong that couldn't have been picked up at the earlier scan and she just said it wasn't allowed unless there was an OBVIOUS problem :(

I was almost referred for a sizing scan at 34 wks because i was measuring almost 4 wks ahead for my dates but the MW said she wasn't concerned and just predicted a large baby for me (8lb and considering i'm only 5 ft and petite framed that WOULD have been huge for me) but when Lucy turned up right on time she was 6lb 3oz

Good Luck for your scan, i'm sure everythings ok, and i hope that it puts your mind at rest until your 12 wk scan!

Re: I have booked a private scan

We paid for a 12 week scan with Olivia, I wasn't prepared to wait until 20 weeks! I don't think it's fair to ask women to wait until 20 weeks before they get reassurance.

Won't be waiting this time either
