    Pulls my heartstrings a bit...

DD has a massive personality and is turning into a real handful, she is bored of all the familiar things and of me tbh. I've been trying to vary things and do new activities. We do go to groups, and she has a little girl her age we go with and have coffee with after ect.

But the new thing, is every child she see's out, she rushes up to and offers a toy or 'talk's to them. She is so desperate for company it seems. She takes books up to other children in the library, as a kind of opener. It's the look that gets me though. Pure hopefullness, that they might aknowledge her.

She'd LOVE a sibling, and it's just not going to happen.
She also has the kind of personality that I don't think being an only child will be ideal for.
No point to this at all, I guess I just feel a bit sad about it.
    This too, shall pass

Aww don't feel sad! You are obviously so proud of her and the way she is, and it's all down to you!

I think Del is also a bit lonely Z is out at school all day and she loves people to chat to.If only you lived round the corner.

It's just that expression of utter hopefullness that gets me iyswim?
She was so good and quiet with the baby who lives next door to my parents yesterday, and kept going back to point at their door after they went inside as she wanted to see the baby some more.

Nathan is exactly the same. Wants to make friends with every child he sees- and is dooo glad when he is at nursery so he can see his friends.

He has two sisters but they are much older than him so not really playmates and I am certainly never having any more

Ah Ms S, I know exactly what you mean, S has that 'look' sometimes too. But there's every chance she will have a sibling one day, so don't be sad about it, just be happy that you know she is lovely and well-natured enough to accept and love a brother or sister . Her time will come when you meet the man of your dreams, you'll see. Don't give up hope, you never ever know what is round the corner. You should be proud of her, so many children at this age just want things off every other child and the fact that she is sharing so well is and a real comment on what a wonderful mummy you are

She just sounds like a sociable type!

    Stop beating yourself up, gal!

You're doing all the right things by taking her to groups and things. Once she starts making special friends, then you can invite them round to play.

She's not lonely....you're just reading more into it cos you feel guilty, maybe?

    You're a GOOD mummy

My mum was a single parent until she remarried when I was 6. I look back on that time when it was just me and her as being really, really special and I'm sure it's where our adult closeness stems from. I didn't really feel lonely, and you don't miss what you never had. I also got a sister when I was 10!

You are doing a great job with her so don't feel guilty!

I know what you mean! Tyler will talk to everyone and regulary says to me he wants a 'sister' or 'brother'. I do feel sorry for him, when were out playing at the park and hes just wandering around looking at all the other children. We want a larger gap for many reasons, but even if we were to have another one now it would be 2 yrs until they could play together and then he will be at school full time. So don't feel too bad about it!

Alfie is the same when we are out he rushes to other children wants to play with them if were out having a meal or in a playzone, takes there toys off them

He even said to me the other day " i want baby" alfie im 99% sure is going to be a only child as i REALLY dont want another one.

if they havent had a brother/sister then they dont know any different..
Alfie has loads of people he plays with & we go to soft play and do things but this doesnt stop him wanting to run up to babies and other children

Dont feel sad & guilty though

Lottie is exactly the same. She loves other kids and gets so excited when we go to our local softplay or the library for the bounce and rhyme session (even though she has a habit of frightening them off by shouting at them warmly! ). I don't feel guilty though, I think it's just a natural progression and them learning about other people and being social. I think you are reading into it too much hon, it's just S growing up, not needing a sibling.

I can always come up for an afternoon so the girls can play together if you want? Let me know

C went through a phase of this, but she got over it rapidly, especially when she realised not all children want to join in her suicidal games... .

Does break your heart though, we went to see a friend of mine the other day and as we were leaving the friend was doing something in the kitchen and hadn't noticed C following her round with her shoes saying "S put shoes on" like a little lost puppy ....

It's not too far for us to come and play too, although Dh crashed the car again so we're a bit immobile atm...
