    Child Trust Fund Voucher.

Simple question really. Who did you invest yours with and why?

I got mine through today and I'm confused between them all, I am tempted by Boots though as they give you vouchers

I put mine in the nationwide account as this is where we bank!!

Nationwide, because they were one of the few (if not the only one) that did the non stakeholder type. It's just savings, not invested so there is no risk of getting out less than you put it, although in real terms it'll be worth less than now due to inflation.
    This too, shall pass

Sainsburys cos you get a 10 gift voucher, but mainly because it is invested in shares/stakes for the first 12 years so could potentially grow larger than a standard savings a/c.

Then, to protect the investment for the last 6 years it is moved into a standard account (not stakes) so there is no chance of it going tits up for 5 years before cash in date.

Even if the market does crash during the first period, it has years to recover. I am only taking this risk because I am looking at the long game. If it was an a/c that I could access anytime, it would be a standard non stake one.

I looked into this, and you only get freebies/vouchers if you also set up a direct debit/standing order to contribute to the account every month. We didn't want to do this as the child automatically gets access to the account on their 18th birthday, and I hate the thought of them potentially spending 18 years worth of our savings on something that we would prefer them not to. We are saving to an account in our name instead, so that we control what it is spent on, e.g. uni fees, house deposit etc.

We have opened an account with Barclays for the CTF voucher as we already bank with them, so Sol will have his £500 when he is 18 to do what he wants with, but won't be able to p*ss our savings up the wall, iyswim! I followed the same logic as CEM.

We did Nationwide as they and another one I can't remember looked like the best. We did stakeholder - sounds like choccy eating monster's one. I also invested £250 we got for our LO when she was born from family, in a savings just in case it all goes tits up and she asks where her money is at 18 when all her friends have thousands.

I am concerned that she may turn into a wild child and spend it all on crap. Like I would have done.

I plan on lieing. A LOT. And tricking her into signing things when she's not concentrating.

That's the whole problem with this CTF stuff - there will be some stupid idiot mother out there who will tell her 18 year old about the CTF, and they'll tell all their mates & before you know it, they're all demanding their money to blow on getting p!ssed & new clothes. I plan on saying we never invested it. "Oh by the way darling, sign this will you, just boring stuff, I know you're in a hurry & on your way out & with your bf here you're desperately trying to impress but yes it absolutely DOES have to be done right this second, oh you don't have time to read it, oh nevermind, it's nothing important, just sign it..." I would have fallen for it... hopefully she will too!

She can have it when she's older, not 18, unless she's a very sensible, stable 18 year old & doesn't have a car yet - highly unlikely.
