Child Trust Fund Voucher.
Simple question really. Who did you invest yours with and why?
I got mine through today and I'm confused between them all, I am tempted by Boots though as they give you vouchers

Nationwide, because they were one of the few (if not the only one) that did the non stakeholder type. It's just savings, not invested so there is no risk of getting out less than you put it, although in real terms it'll be worth less than now due to inflation.
This too, shall pass

Re: Child Trust Fund Voucher.
Sainsburys cos you get a 10 gift voucher, but mainly because it is invested in shares/stakes for the first 12 years so could potentially grow larger than a standard savings a/c.
Then, to protect the investment for the last 6 years it is moved into a standard account (not stakes) so there is no chance of it going tits up for 5 years before cash in date.
Even if the market does crash during the first period, it has years to recover. I am only taking this risk because I am looking at the long game. If it was an a/c that I could access anytime, it would be a standard non stake one.You must give your children 2 things in life: Roots and wings

Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see. ~Neil Postman, The Disappearance of Childhood (introduction), 1982
When childhood dies, its corpses are called adults and they enter society, one of the politer names of hell. That is why we dread children, even if we love them, they show us the state of our decay. ~Brian Aldiss

Re: Child Trust Fund Voucher.
I looked into this, and you only get freebies/vouchers if you also set up a direct debit/standing order to contribute to the account every month. We didn't want to do this as the child automatically gets access to the account on their 18th birthday, and I hate the thought of them potentially spending 18 years worth of our savings on something that we would prefer them not to. We are saving to an account in our name instead, so that we control what it is spent on, e.g. uni fees, house deposit etc.
We have opened an account with Barclays for the CTF voucher as we already bank with them, so Sol will have his £500 when he is 18 to do what he wants with, but won't be able to p*ss our savings up the wall, iyswim! I followed the same logic as CEM.

Re: Child Trust Fund Voucher.
We did Nationwide as they and another one I can't remember looked like the best. We did stakeholder - sounds like choccy eating monster's one. I also invested £250 we got for our LO when she was born from family, in a savings just in case it all goes tits up and she asks where her money is at 18 when all her friends have thousands.
I am concerned that she may turn into a wild child and spend it all on crap. Like I would have done.

I plan on lieing. A LOT. And tricking her into signing things when she's not concentrating.

I would have fallen for it... hopefully she will too!
She can have it when she's older, not 18, unless she's a very sensible, stable 18 year old & doesn't have a car yet - highly unlikely.
