So sad, however, you've got to wonder about the ****wittery going on that folk think it is okay to take kids out on open water with wobbly canoes with only buoyancy aids and not proper life jackets.

The poor, poor mother of those kids.

They weren't wearing proper life jackets then? I did wonder why they didn't float until rescued. They were pretty far from the shore too, according to reports, several hundred metres the two survivors swam to raise the alarm.

The other wee girl died too.

I grew up there and it is a terrible tragedy. That stretch of water does look deceptive though and I can understand why they went out.

Apparently the wee girl was found face down in the water despite wearing a buoyancing aid. It wasn't enough to keep her head out of the water. I'm amazed the older girl had the strength and presence of mind to swim back to shore with her father.

I really hope they find the father's body quickly for the family's sake. Local people are out helping in the search.
