    Re: Tagalong Bikes

We have a tag-along bike for our youngest and she loves it. When she pedals we zoom along, and when she gets too tired she can just rest.

Perfect for going to rides with her big brother who has a bigger bike and a little more stamina!

We've just got a Trailgator which is also working well for our 3 yr old, he can not balance at all on a bike yet but is fine with the Trailgator, I imagine it might be a bit harder with an 8 yr old though.
Apparently ( according to MSE forums) some Tesco stores are selling them off for £17 at the moment.

This is my concern, it's kind of marketed at much younger, smaller children, have ordered and will see how it goes, I'm not getting my hopes up though, he couldn't stay on the tagalong and I'm not convinced this will be much different. He's 130cm tall, to my 158cm I guess that might be some of the problem... It's sadly always going to be the problem so maybe I should just suck up the cost of the original one I wish I'd seen the tesco thing before I ordered though! Thanks ladies

    Re: Tagalong Bikes

When you tried the tag along was it the right size for him? I think they're made for age 4-6 really so I wonder if that might have thrown off his balance more if he's 8. I think that's why I like the gater bars so much - they are on the bike that is the right size for them...

The two wheeled versions look great for what you want, but I don't think you'll find them much cheaper anywhere. I'm not 100% sure about the gater bar with stabilisers as it may cause issues when going down curbs/over uneven surfaces etc (unless you can get larger, all-terrain type stabilisers).

I hope you find something that works.

Good luck Lauranne, I hope it works out for you.
Just to say, my 8.5 year old has Developmental Co-ordination Disorder, and he really struggled with learning to ride a bike, but he is finally off on his own this summer. It is still tricky to get him started, mainly because of his lack of confidence, he seems to talk himself out of it. There is no way I would ever have got him this far without the help of a very patient and determined Papa. I honestly wouldn't have believed it was possible to get him bike riding this year, and we are still quite limited to what he will agree to do.

Anyway, I really hope that you can get the Trailgator to work and help him build up his confidence

Thanks Samba that's good to hear that your DS can ride a bike, gives me hope for mine. The trail-gator arrived and we tried it out this afternoon. Sadly a no-go but at least we tried. Just going to persevere with DS on his bike with stabilisers and see if we can strengthen his legs enough to get him peddling further, thanks for all your help ladies
