Uti's - any lo's had a mag3 scan and cystoscopy?
Another medical question from me! This one is about Millie.
She has had a significant number of UTI's this year and is on a prophylactic course of antibiotics. She had a kidney and bladder scan which was totally clear.
At the weekend we received a letter to say that she is to go for a mag3 scan and cystoscopy this coming Monday.
Ive been told that she will have a butterfly cannula in and that the radioactive liquid that they will inject will sting and sge will feel it track up her arm.
Ive obviously spoken about it to her although I've not told her that it will hurt.
Im going to take her bear and i've told her if she tries to be brave that she can have a treat.
Any tips for preparing her? She was terrified of the ultrasound so I'm rather concerned about how things will go on Monday.

Oh, poor little thing

DS2 (who is 17) had to have a CT scan for the same problem - it is a little bit stingy (he says) when they inject the liquid, and just felt 'a bit weird'. But he is obviously much older than your LO. He has so far refused to have the cytoscopy
and I can't make him

Re: Uti's - any lo's had a mag3 scan and cystoscopy?
Thanks all.
Marti I really hope your little one doesn't need it. I'm hoping that this will be the end to the tests as hopefully they are not going to find any problem. The prophylactic AB have made a massive difference. She hasn't had a uti since starting them.
I've to call the hospital about the topical anaesthetic so I will ask them if there is any specific prep I can do.
Dilly my SiL has had it and she described exactly as your son did.

Re: Uti's - any lo's had a mag3 scan and cystoscopy?
I called the hospital today to ask about the local anaesthetic and I enquired why she has been referred for this test as we hadn't been advised of anything.
The secretary went to investigate and called me back. It turns out there was some dictation from the consultant that she hadn't typed up.
It seems that one of M's kidneys is smaller than the other.
I don't know anything else.
Well that explains why they want to test the funtionality of her kidney's.
Im so blummin worried now.

Claire, I know its easier said than done but please try not to worry. My sister had one kidney smaller than the other as a child and it was very easy to treat.

We are going through the exact same process as you but are further along.
The radioactive dye is fine, Olivia was number up with cream on all areas they thought they could use but no canular was involved just straight into her arm but she never felt a thing, just a cold feeling no pain at all.
DD has one kidney smaller than the other too and we have had so mnay tests and scans
DS1 16,
DS2 14,
DD 11

Clowe sorry to hear you are going through the same thing. It's a right old worry isn't it? What is the next stage in Olivia's investigations?
Mrs B thank you. That is reassuring. Xxx

Re: Uti's - any lo's had a mag3 scan and cystoscopy?
All her results have been sent up to the specialist department at Newcastle and we have to wait to hear from them. Have an appointment for 1st October if we havnt heard from the prior to this.
We had such an awful time when she was very ill and ended up in hospital on a drip for two days but thankfully nothing since then.
She had ultra sound scans n her kidneys, they scanned her whilst she had a wee, they did the radio active dye thing I cant remember in which order they all happened though.
She will be fine, Im sure of it

Re: Uti's - any lo's had a mag3 scan and cystoscopy?
DS2's consultant told me lots of people have 'oddities' in their kidneys, and sometime it's not relevant to the problems they are having, it's just that the tests have discovered it.
try not to worry.
DS2 has 'double' kidneys - two normal kidneys and then extra kidneys sort of attached
apparently it may not be what's causing his problems.
