Breathless and wheezy asthma out of date inhaler
I have asthma but has been years and years maybe 5 or al since I've needed any steroids or anything for it
I felt it the last few weeks on and off and it is definitely asthma type breathlessness and wheezy
When I was on steroids for it I did suffer when I went abroad with it so wondering if it could be weather related?
Tonight I don't feel great with it and was instructed by dh to take my inhaler (just the blue one) but the only one I could find expired in 2008 oops
I have taken 3 puffs instead of 2
Just wondering if it will have any effect being so out of date?
Does asthma come round in cycles?

Re: Breathless and wheezy asthma out of date inhaler
Sorry you're not feeling great atm. My feeling about expiry dates, especially where medication is concerned, is that they are there for a reason. Four years is a while out of date so I'm not sure how effective it would be now. I think that Asthma can flare up even if it hasn't caused problems for a while. Can you speak to your GP for proper medical advice?

How are you feeling now?
You must get a new inhaler TOMORROW.
If you feel worse tonight, call for an ambulance. It's not worth asking a risk over.

What Damz says is very true, it might be very mild asthma but you need to be equipped to deal with it.
On the expiry date thing im not sure, but it often takes me a lot more than 3 puffs to feel better anyway.
If I ever get caught without an inhaler I find sitting up straight helps and breathing deep and slow. Try to get control or the wheezing gets worse.
You definitely need to get to the doctors though, you need a ventolin on hand as a reliever.

Re: Breathless and wheezy asthma out of date inhaler
Hi
i was wheezy today and found my inhaler didn't help much. When I checked it expired at the end of June. I can't believe I didn't realise earlier. Anyway I called my GP and they had a prescription for me to pick up on my way home from work. One puff on the new one and I feel so much better.
Ong story but I think that the effectiveness goes even before the expiry date

It's the same thing, just different brand names.
Lisnic, do you have hayfever? I've found that in the last few days since the sun has come out (a bit!) I've been a bit breathless then finally twigged that I hadn't been taking my antihistamines as I hadn't needed them much during the rain.
