Re: Would you be annoyed/upset/complain?
Yes, it would annoy me if I was in there regularly enough. But I wouldn't complain. I would try to cut him off before he got started.
I absolutely hate being asked if I want a credit card/thee bars of chocolate/magazine etc etc at any till. However, I just smile and say a firm no thank you.
I think the suggestion of letting someone else go first is excellent. And the kicking in the nuts has something to recommend it too

Re: Would you be annoyed/upset/complain?
I haven't had this in the PO before. I go into my bank as little as possible as they are always trying to sell me something!
I would be irritated, and 5 and a bit years ago with a smallish baby in tow, I'd probably have been upset by the implication that I was about to pop my clogs. I would just stop going there. And if - big if - I liked the business I'd probably speak to a manager about why I wasn't shopping there anymore, but I can only think of one or two shops where I'd bother to do this.

Re: Would you be annoyed/upset/complain?
If I was going to complain, I'd complain to the manager of the PO, not the individual guy. I would find it very irritating - I go to a tiny little PO in my local shop and me and the PO lady have a nice little chat and she never tries to sell me anything. I never, ever go into a branch of my bank as they are always trying to sell me stuff and I don't like it. A friend's step-father, elderly and in the early stages of dementia, was 'sold' lots of stuff he didn't need by a member of bank staff (she said 'ooh, you haven't got any contents insurance, I can't see any premiums going out regularly, you'd better buy ours quick'
in fact he paid his contents insurance annually) and my father was sold PO internet because they said it was cheaper than what he currently had, and it wasn't
He complained though
