Breastfeeding and hayfever
Tonight I'm at my wits end, I really am! Feeding a 3 week old baby & my hayfever is horrendous. It has been every night for a few weeks. Went to Boots and they only would give me a homeopathic remedy which hasn't worked. The hayfever is do bad tonight that the phlegm is running down my throat & making me sick.
Anyone else had this & taken tablets for it?
Help?!

Re: Breastfeeding and hayfever
I'm sure they let me take a nasal spray - no tablets though

You have my sympathies - mine was actually not that bad when breast feeding, but i remember how horrible it was not being able to take anything for it when I was pg with M.Jedi Boy is 6, the Little Princess is 3....

Yep I use the nasal spray.. It's fantastic and the bonus for me is that it doesn't make me drowsy like all of the tablets do!
Give your GP a call in the morning, they should be able to sort you out a prescription over the phone.

Same here, nasal spray and I also used New Era homeopathic tabs which helped a little. I feel for you.

Have a look on kellymom.com - there's info that says Claritin (Loratadine) is safe for use during breastfeeding.

Re: Breastfeeding and hayfever
I've taken several things for hayfever whilst bf with the blessing of my (norwegian ) GP. as for as I'm aware topical stuff (nasal sprays, eye drops) are usually OK, regarding tablets they do go over in the milk but may be OK for newborns anyway, however they can also reduce milk supply and make baby a bit drowsy so they suckle less. Once mine were on solids as well as milk it wasn't such a big issue but when fully bf we were monitored quite closely to make sure baby kept gaining weight
