can anyone help, vaccinations and being round a person with cancer?

DD is suppose to be having her MMR this afternoon, we were going to take them round to see their great grandad straight after, he's not having treatment but he has advanced melanoma in his lungs, liver and hasn't been too well.

Would this be a bad idea, as I could easily put her MMR back if it was a risk?

Can you call your doctor's surgery and check?

You need to ask your GP. Or I think the vaccine helpline is available to the public, google sanofi aventis vaccination helpline.

It depends on whether it's a live vaccine or one that is capable of causing mild disease. Some are just proteins from the virus to trigger the immune system so those are ok.

It is the treatment that knackers the immune system though. So if he isn't having treatment it's less likely to be a problem.

But ask- does your grandfather have a nurse or consultant he can ask as well?

What Faith said-it's the chemo that reduces the immunity, not the cancer, and then at certain points of the cycle. Your grandfather should have an idea, as they're strongly advised to avoid crowded transport, ill people etc at these times.

ETA Have just re-read your post, he's not on any treatment so it should be OK.
