Presents for teachers if you have contributed to a collection
Ok, I just want to check I'm not going to get this wrong.
M is just finishing her first term at preschool. The class rep has organised a collection for the teachers which I have contributed to. We have also submitted a photo of M and a drawing that she did for a book they are putting together.
I thought 'jobs a good 'un'
Well I did until I spoke to another mum and she told me she was going to buy a pressie. Is this the done thing?

Re: Presents for teachers if you have contributed to a collection
I am contributing and buying a present. The contribution is £5 but that has to go four ways. I'm going to still get a little present each for the teacher and teaching assistant but I'm probably in the minority!

Oh buggery bollocks. Do you give a card as well?
I don't actually know how many TA there are a
. In my defence I'm usually trying to direct M whilst stopping O from leaping out of my arms into the paint pots. I do know the main teacher and two of the other ones.
What did you buy them CL? I'll need to get something tomorrow or Tuesday.

Re: Presents for teachers if you have contributed to a collection
I probably am alone so don't stress about it. I should imagine some of the other mums who have put into the collection will do it, others won't. I'd prefer not to put into the collection and do my own thing but
felt a bit mean saying it.
Yes, I do them a card each too, from the children with a little note from me in them.
I haven't bought anything yet, they don't break up until the end of the month. Last year was wine and chocs. Christmas I did little candles with chocolates. I may go with wine again this year.
I have 5 TA's and 2 teachers to buy for

We've only ever done one or the other, although have just realised that this time we've managed to do both for one childs, gifts only for the youngests and nothing for the eldests teachers

Re: Presents for teachers if you have contributed to a collection
I think a card from M for the teachers and TA would be all that you need to do if you've put in for the collection.
At our old London school there was never a joint collection (well one they told me about!
) so I always made biscuits and put them together with Lindt chocs in cellophane for the teachers and TAs (they always said they liked them so hope they did!). Here I donated money and very generous gift cards were bought so my three just gave cards out to their teachers so they could write something individually.

Re: Presents for teachers if you have contributed to a collection
I have put in the collections but bought extra - only because I had already bought for the nursery staff not knowing anyone would do a collection, and for DS1 he really 'clicks' with his teacher and wanted to get her something extra.
For DS1's teacher I have got a Burts Bees gift tin with a few small goodies in it, and for the TA a Terry's Chocolate Orange that says 'Thankyou teacher' on it, from the £1 shop no less!!!
For the nursery teachers I have got Kath Kidston mugs and added a small coffee for one and tea bags for the other.
I note that all this stuff has been bought on special offers, bogof, etc so not cost me too much and I really don't think it's necessary to but over and above the collection - a card with a note from the child would usually suffice from us!

I probably wouldn't buy something if I'd already contributed to a joint gift.

Being very cheeky, if anyone is looking for a good priced, totally unique present for a teacher or teaching assistant, then pop over to www.facebook.com/jimmyjamesdesigns and take a look in our photo album - Teacher Gifts. You have a choice of a solid oak heart showing colouring pencils which can be personalised with wording of your choice, or a solid oak heart decoupaged in a map of the school itself.
We are still taking orders - JUST! And starting at just £4.00, plus £3.50 p+p a really budget friendly option.
