No temperature but a very very waxy ear
Dd hasn't been right since Wednesday lots of pain type screaming and arching
Could be a few things as she isn't great with bowels etc but I am concerned it could be her ear
One is easily visible full of wax seeping out and quite hard.i cleaned off any wax in outside part of ear last night and it's back outside like seeping out. The other side is clear as far as can see
What could this be?i instantly think ear infection but she has no temp

This is a phone pic so can see how clogged it is

Re: No temperature but a very very waxy ear
It could be an inflammation of the outer ear/ear canal. Otitis externa (I think that's what it's called). Can be an infection that causes it or a reaction to swimming pool chemicals/new shampoo etc? Will she let you touch the area? When dd2 had it she was in incredible pain.
Worth a check up at the GP, dd had a couple of courses of drops - the infection never got through the ear drum so she never got that acute unwellness they get with a "traditional" ear infection (otitis media).

I took her to ooh gp sunday due to this and also the screaming and he was crap said not an infection as no temp but could be the start of an infection and didn't examine anything else

Re: No temperature but a very very waxy ear
When dd2 had it she was obviously in so much pain - the pain was when you touched her anywhere around her ear. Like you describe, going though the roof. Dh & i had to hold her while the doc examined her and she managed to kick the doctor in the stomach
She got it when she was learning to swim in a humid country. The course of drops was quite long (2wks ish). From what you've said it sounds just like that. I'd take her to your GP in the morning & give her some anti-inflammatory tonight (ibuprofen).

Re: No temperature but a very very waxy ear
I agree with your friend, she definitely needs a proper ear examination. Usually (from personal experience) once the ear drum bursts the pain subsides but I wouldnt rule it out.
I hope she's feeling better soon.
do your out of hours do telephone triage first? If she can't settle it might be worth calling them tonight & hopefully get a better doc than the one you saw on Sunday.

Re: No temperature but a very very waxy ear
The swimming link can also cause a yeast infection, rather a reaction to pool chemicals. (I feel like I could go on mastermind with childhood ear infections between myself & Dd2!)

Now you say that the pain when touching the outer ear ha subsided she doesn't hit the roof now when I look at it
I sent her that pic and she said def pus and could be from either inside or outer but needs a swab and antibiotic drops ASAP and calpol as will be painful and will explain the screaming and feeding issues too
No they just ring back to tell you where to go really or if they think can wait until gp
She is worse in day settled at 7 and has slept since I'll dream feed her at 10 and she will probably go back down straight away
She has been wanting to be upright more so all clicks

Re: No temperature but a very very waxy ear
Just for context, this happened to my youngest son all the time; from him being about 4 months old. It's basically glue-ear and whenever they get a cold the mucus doesn't drain properly so the eardrum perforates. I don't think it's as bad for the child as it seems to adult. It's mucus that's coming out of the ear rather than wax or pus. The pain is caused by the pressure and, like CB says, once the eardrum pops the pain will subside.
In my experience it very very rarely needs antibiotics, unless there is a persistent temperature once the general snottiness has gone, and a trip to the doctor feels like a waste of time. I would still go though to 'register' that it has happened. It may happen to her quite regularly and it's a good idea to keep a record if you need to push for grommets later.

Update gp said def pus and it's full of it she couldn't even see eardrum to see if was damaged so gave oral antibiotics as couldn't risk drops or spray incase was perforated she said should clear it up but if not fully as its quite pussy enough that they wi be able to see the eardrum.she hit the roof when getting examined again
She said doc Sunday should def have picked up in this and that those days I antibiotics would have made a big difference to how bad it's got
