    What age for bunk beds?

The boys cotbeds are falling apart. Their room is too small for two single beds plus I have bunk bed frames in my room waiting for them anyway. But are they too young? They will be 4 in August. I seem to remember Claire going in a top bunk about that age. What age were yours?

Re: What age for bunk beds?

DS1 was 5 and DS2 only just 3 when they moved into them but DS2 was on the bottom. I think it depends on the type of bunkbed, but I really think he'd be fine now on the top one - our has a raised side all the way round except the ladder, which is at the foot end. I honestly don't see how you could fall out.
no matter how far you have travelled down the wrong road, you can always turn around.

I remember putting DS in a bottom bunkbed on holiday when he was just 3 ... he rolled out during the night and fell asleep under the bed, we had to slide him out before he woke up.

Ross was 5.5, Eden was on the bottom at 19 months but that was actually lower than your average bed. I guess a confidently climbing 4 year old would be ok depending on how often they went to the loo in the night and whether they sleep walk to the loo or not!

Thomas was 5.. At nearly 4 I think Oscar would be fine, my only worry is if he woke in the night and didn't really thunk about the fact he was in a bunk bed, I think that's the only way he'd fall out. But then, I think it depends on the child as I know Oscar panics a bit at night and just sort of legs it through to our room.

DS2 have those Ikea ones where the bottom bunk is on the floor, so they are a bit lower, but both sleep on the top (in their own rooms), DS2 has been in it since he was 2yrs 3mths, he loves it and is fine, but he has always been a good climber!

Should add as well that we bought the triple bunk from tesco and for a while T&O shared the bottom bunk which worked well whilst T got used to the top bunk (the bottom is a small double)

W has been in a mid cabin bed (slightly lower than a bunk) for well over a year now (he was 4 in April) and he's been fine
