Conjuncitivitis (Me) and it really hurts!
My right eye has been playing up all day until at about 4pm I started to look like this
now it's oozing and red and generally disgusting. But it's also very painful, hurts to blink and it feels bruised and tender.
Is there anything I can do to help with the discomfort? I know that it should resolve itself in a few days but I started my new job today and could really do without the pain and general zombieness of it all.xx Hermie xx

It shouldn't hurt at all J, if it's painful call the out of hours docs - you only get 1 pair of eyes.

That sounds quite nasty, and I believe that when one eye becomes infected it can be difficult to avoid infecting the other one (i.e. through use of towels, rubbing your eyes etc.) I think that you should at least speak to a pharmacist tonight if possible. I remember having conjunctivitis when I was a child and it was horribly uncomfortable, but I don't recall it being painful. Definitely get it checked out

Thanks ladies, I've just popped to the chemist and have some drops. I've also boiled the kettle and am just waiting for the water to cool so I can do the bathey thing.

Are you sure its conjunctivitis? I had really bad hayfever one year that I thought was conjunctivitis - my eyes were really painful and bright red, but an antihistamine helped to sort it. The pollen count has been really high today and I have itchy eyes.
Whatever it is, I hope it goes away soon

Thanks Jelly. I hadn't thought of hayfever, I've never had either before. It's only one eye though, would it not be both if it was hayfever? I've not had any other symptoms that I see DH having - streaming swollen eyes, sneezing, itchy nose, throat & eyes, but then I guess everyone's symptoms are different
