Engagement Ring Alterations

I'm not really sure which forum this should be in, so sorry if its in the wrong one!

I just wondered if any Damsels had had an engagement ring altered before so that it sits flush with their wedding band? I need to get the prongs removed on one side of the centre diamond apparently. However, the jeweller who made the ring has quoted £200 to do this, which seems steep to me!

I just wondered if anybody else had had this done, and if so, am I being overcharged?

I've never had that exact thing done, but that does seem very steep Can you try a different jeweller? We have a small independent one here who has done lots of things for me and it's never been expensive.

If it helps I had to have one stone on my ring reset - that cost £25 per prong...
£200 seems stepp - do shop around...I'd always go for an independent who does stuff on site.

I don't recall how much it cost but it wasn't anywhere near £200 Much less than that.

My jeweller is actually an independent, he has his own little workshop. However, it is on Bond St! So that probably explains the price.

I think I may have to have a look around Hatton Garden to compare prices.
