Did you do your speechs before or after?

for my wedding, we did them after the meal... for my sisters we did them before dessert x

I went to a wedding once where the speeches were before the meal. I was pregnant at the time, and was at the 'If I don't eat now I'm going to kill someone' stage of pregnancy. I swear I was that close to getting up and walking out! I snaffled everyone's bread rolls (they were already on the table), drank as much water as I could, and tried not to cry

We had ours after the meal but my poor Dad was so nervous he didn't eat or drink a thing, or speak to me throughout the whole thing so I had a mute on one side and a drunken husband on the other! If I had my time again I would probably do at least my Dad's speech before. The other speeches would all have stayed after the meal primarily as DH can't half bollock on and I think his speech alone was over half an hour so it would've been cruel to make people wait until he'd finished. No one had a frigging clue what the best man was saying so it was just as well that his speech was after the meal as we were all drunk and laughed despite nobody getting it!

We had drinks after the cermony and then speeches first so that that they can all get them out the way and relax and enjoy their meal. My sisters wedding they did it after and the people who were doing the speeches couldn't eat as they were so nervous, wanted them to enjoy the meal! Kev was so nervous so he was glad it was over and done with!

We didn't have any speeches! I don't really like them and couldn't be bothered with them.

However most weddings we have been to have had them after the meal

Exactly this, we didn't do much traditional stuff at all, but I work in a hotel and probably 9/10 people do them after the meal

We did them before due to Best man, groom and my dad's nerves.
DH has been a best man 3 times and hasn't eaten or enjoyed his meal if speeches are afterwards.

If I had my time again, I might have served some more substantial nibbles with drinks during photographs so everyone could wait for their dinner while we had the speeches first.
