I hope M is feeling better soon
I would second being on the look out for thrush and I hope the antibiotic isn't too yucky to take. 6 months of try to get 4 tablets a day into a 3 year old was NOT fun in my experience. Hats off to all that have to do it

Re: Repeated UTI's in young children

    Hi Claireh,

I also have a little girl called Millie, she is 3 this Sunday. About 3 weeks ago she kept us awake all night. We thought it was because she had a cold but she started to complain about being sore 'down there'. We took her to a doctor who asked for a urine sample and immediately prescribed amoxycillin. we went back 3 days later on Thursday and the doctor said she had a UTI which he then prescibed Cephalexin. We finished the course on a monday night and we thought she was all good but it was the worst night yet with her very unsettled. On Tuesday we went back to another doctor with a urine sample and put her on another course of antibiotics and said to come back for results on the following Monday. We went to another doctor as we found the others a bit uncaring and not...'concerned' enough I guess. Even thouh she would scream in pain at times the doctor said she was clear of the UTI which means she was on the second course of antibiotics for nothing.

I was relieved to hear the infection was gone but then the doctor said UTIs in little ones is serious and that i should take her for a renal ultrasound. Going back a week later i was hoping it would be good and all over. While the scan didn't show anything too abnormal he said her renal pelves were a little prominant (whatever that means). He said it could be an obstruction like a stone or something. its not necessarily bad but we have to go back in 3 months for another scan. So more waiting and a little stressing. On a more positive note she is sleeping and eating well and has not complained in the last few days of being sore which one doctor said was probably inflammation left over from the infection which sometimes takes extra time to heal.

So sorry for rambling on. Its so hard to talk to other people who have no idea and I am so glad there are forums like this for support.

Hope you have some answers and your little Millie has improved from the last time you posted
