I actually really like the name Axel and know a german guy with the name.

I like the name Axel, I knew a dutch guy called that.

...and I know a Swede with the name Axel! It's not an unusual name in Sweden

Years ago I knew a woman who wanted to give her child a really classy name, and came up with Chanel. Not sooo bad, except she couldn't spell, and called it Channel by mistake!

My parents fostered a child whose sister was called Rubecca. I'm sure his Mum couldn't spell the name rather than wanting to be different.

I'd say its unusual in that you dont hear it very often, but it isnt an odd name like some mentioned on this thread!

My daughter came home from school recently claiming that there was a new girl in her class called 'Field'. After some investigation, it turned out that her name was actually 'Meadow'. (Which, actually, I think is a v pretty name, but not so sure about 'Field'!)
