Joining the gym
I am thinking of joining my local leisure centre, I went and enquired today and for my membership would get unlimited use of the swimming pool, exercise classes and the gym.
I like the idea of being about to go whenever I want i.e day or evening as my shifts fir work change weekly. I'm trying to get out running twice a week but am finding I'm lacking motivation at the moment, I like the idea of being able to use the treadmill/exercise bikes when it's cold, dark and wet.
So for anyone who goes, convince me it's a good idea.

Re: Joining the gym
If you get into the habit, and you like the facilities, it's a brilliant idea
I like to do a bit of everything, so having classes, gym and a pool at my place is great.

Re: Joining the gym
I have been a member a few times over the years and invariably don't keep it up.
When I started again I did a 3 month thing - which I then renewed a couple of times.
The last time I managed to get a really good deal on a membership that I could cancel with only one month's notice.
In the end I was only using it to take Zach swimming

I'm a member of a gym and I love it. For me the best way of making sure I go is to book a few classes at the start of the week.
That gives me an incentive to go and not talk myself out of it if I can't be bothered!

Re: Joining the gym
I'm a member of my local authority gym(s) - I can use about 9 different sports centres and a couple of seperate pools including a 'fun' pool which is great for taking the kids to (I took out membership for them too, £5 a month each and they have unlimited use of the pools and soft play as well as kids classes which they probably won't go to). I love the classes, one instructor in particular is really good so I actually look forward to the 'torture'
I tried exercising at home but I just don't have the willpower, I need to pre-book the classes online to make sure I go and I have a gym programme made up too so I don't feel like I'm just making it up as I go along!

Re: Joining the gym
I love my gym, Im the fat one in the corner, but they are great at motivating me and keeping me interested. There are lots of different sorts of classes,. some I never would have thought I would like so give everything a go. Try to set yourself a timetable at the beginning of the week and keep your gym bag packed ready to go and keep it in the car. I found that to be the most useful tip I was given, Im more inclined to go then on the way home from work. If I go on the house to pack the gym bag, I never get out again!
