Non stick griddle pan. How do I keep it nice and not knacker it up?

I love my griddle pan and use it several times a week. It's a JO one, non stick. But I think I must have been using and taking care of it wrong because I struggle to get it clean after use, there's always food stuck to it that i cannot remove without a fight, and now the non stick coating is starting to come off.

So I'm going to invest in another, but I don't want to mess this one up. Is there a secret to maintaining them?

Apparently soaking it straight in cold water is a BAD thing to do. I always deglaze mine after cooking with some balsamic/lemon juice/wine etc to get rid of what we call the "gubbins" and then it's easy to clean. Obvious things like only use wooden or silicone tools, and never use abrasive cleaning products.

If you're buying a new one, the best one I've had to date was from John Lewis - wasn't expensive either, just their bog standard range.

I've got the Ikea one, think its called something like Gridda. I just pour any oil off and then wipe with kitchen towel. Nothing seems to stick to it. Its a really good product, you can use it under the grill or on the hob and its handle folds in to it, so very compact to store. Think it was £7-8.

I also had the same problem with a [supposedly] non-stick Le Creuset. It went in the bin.

I think where I've been going wrong is doing precisely what Mrs B said NOT to do- chucking it under a cold tap when I'm done

I'll have a look around and try deglazing next time, thanks.
