Sorry to hear she has to have this, but six weeks isnt too long at least.
Sorry but she won't be able to have ryebread - that has gluten in it.

Sorry again but there's not such thing as different glutens Gluten is gluten is gluten. There are oats you can have that are called Pure Oats which are gluten free - Nairns definitely do gluten free products with oats, you're right and so long at they're gluten free they're fine (you'd have to check the ingredients though for the rest of your list though, sorry, it's not something I have to worry about - just gluten!)

Sorry again but GF stuff is wheat free by definition. Gluten is found in all wheat. There is no such thing as wheat without gluten in it. But gluten is also contained in lots of other products as well as wheat (Barley, malt, oats, couscous etc etc etc) The confusion ime comes when people think that a Coeliac is someone who has to follow a wheat free diet. Yes, absolutely true but it's not purely just wheat, it's other things that have gluten in as well. Clear as mud? It's ridiculously confusing.

The poor poor love. Hopefully you'll get some good ideas from the sites that have been mentioned.

Like I said on FB - be cautious of products labelled gluten free that do contain an "acceptable" amount of gluten as for children following a GF diet, there is zero amount that is considered ok. Breakfast cereals are a minefield. I would avoid at all costs and just get the GF ones if she likes the. H has the Doves Chocolate stars (maybe DF, I'm not sure - I'll check tomorrow) plus Gorilla Munch (again I'll check if they're DF) as snacks - so perfect without milk.

Any other questions just ask love xxxx

    Poor Seri.

I had some jelly babies on Saturday night (was in desperate need of a boost). Felt really ropey afterwards and googled it - yes they contain wheat too. I just knew it.

I dont allow her to have bread in school Anne because of her TOF, bread is notorious for getting stuck

Thanks Kat. Thankfully it is just wheat as opposed to all gluten (I am 99% sure!) that is one of my Qs to ask the dietician, but from what it says on the info we have I am fairly certain

It is mind boggling just how much stuff it has in, again thankfully due to her TOF she does not have sweets like this so that is one less thing to deprive her of

Re: We have to do a 6 food Elimination Diet with Serena for 6 weeks

I really feel for you and remember being in a flat spin with DS2. He had to eliminate cows milk, soya and nuts as a baby/toddler.

It helped me to think of him as a meat eating vegan (but I didn't have the wheat thing as well) and I would use lots of vegan recipes and foods from my local health food shop. Once you start looking there is alot they can have and you will find things that you can substitute. If you have a good health food shop near you they can often provide advice on products but I found that I became an expert on reading labels - I was shocked at how many foods have milk powder in them.

He was given a prescription for a dairy/soya free milk but it was vile and he refused to drink it. I was very worried about the lack of calcium and in the end he was prescribed a liquid calcium supplement. It must have worked as he has the longest roots in his baby teeth of any of mine! You could ask your dietician about that, and also a good liquid vitamin supplement (I used Floradix Kindervital when he was older).

I found that there are some good rice based products and also the 'free from' range from Sainsbury's.

    Good luck.

Just found this link for Free From recipes - some of them look delicious. They are without dairy, wheat & gluten. I'm sure most of them could be adapted so that they are egg and soya free too.

    http://www2.sainsburys.co.uk/food/allergies-intolerances/freefrom-recipes/freefrom_recipes.htm?WT.svl=2&WT.seg_1=nav_seconda ry

ETA. Orgran also do a dairy/wheat free egg replacement that can be used in cooking with rice or coconut flour for baking.

It's gluten and wheat free. Aaron is coeliac so can't eat either.

Re: We have to do a 6 food Elimination Diet with Serena for 6 weeks

DD2 was milk, soya and wheat free for about a year (which did solve her issues) She was/is also a good eater and that helped a lot. She liked millet (I called it big cous cous and then even fussy as h*ll DD1 ate it ) I also found king soba noodles in various wheat free varieties that were popular, their millet and brown rice noodles were the best spaghetti substitute I found

She was younger but she did have a 'milk substitute' prescribed called Neocate, she had the childrens ones not the baby ones, neocate advance and neocate active, both are elemental but advance has a more easily absorbed fat type and is suitable as a sole nutrition source whereas (I think) active has more calcium and is not suitable as a sole nutrition source. Anyway DD2 was basically on active (blackcurrant flavour) but we also had some advance (banana vanilla flavour) becasue active came in sachets that made 300ml and advance came in sachets that made 200 ml which was sometimes handier. Anway getting to the point EE was definitely one of the indications listed on the neocate blurb so it might be worthwhile asking about something like that, it is hideously expensive though so if she eats well they might not feel its neccessary.

Good luck, It seems overwhelming but you do get into the swing of it fairly quickly

Re: We have to do a 6 food Elimination Diet with Serena for 6 weeks

She could have spag bol with gf spaghetti (just tastes the same) I think?

Chips with chicken (or any meat) veg
    Tuna Salad
    Jacket Potato, beans.
    Salads
think she could maybe have these sausages http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp

Things like rice crispies (they have barley extract but a wheat free diet should be ok?)

Vegetable spread (made with sunflower, no soya) I think vitalite would be ok.

Lots of GF breads contain egg, but the flour is fine to use yourself to make bread etc, perhaps freeze it, tastes much better too.

Can she have coconut? many of the free from biscuits etc contain it.

Really hope it works for you

Some very good ideas here. Esp the advice to think of a vegan diet with meat in - that's how I describe S to most people.

    Some other ideas are:
    chilli and rice
jacket potato and tuna (no mayo) or beans
    Jelly (hm or shop bought)
Birds custard powder made up with whatever milk you choose (oat, rice or kara coconut milk)
Fruit ice lollies and ice pops. frozen innocent tubes work well too.
Ready brek (is fortified with calcium so v good) but the branded stuff has milk in, most own brands seem not to.
    Rice salads
HM stews and casseroles (thickened with cornflour) with mash (made with vitalite - this is soya and dairy free)
Roast dinners (but be wary of instant gravy)

You can often buy chocolate coconut or oat milk in the supermarket which isn't too bad. My Tesco stocks a soya and dairy free ice cream (can't remember the name but it was featured on Dragon's Den). And have a look at the goodnessdirect website - they stock a lot of allergen free foods and packet mixes.

oh and i think haribo are still on the menu!

was just looking in my fridge, don't know if you've tried them but Swedish Meatballs look fine http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp (they have them in Morrison's and Sainsbury's) was expecting them to have egg in but they don't.

Those Rice Kripie Multigrain Shapes don't contain anything either, along with cornflakes.

There's a girl I follow on Twitter who I think has that, are you on Twitter? x

I stand corrected I know about gluten, but wasn't sure if they could just take the gluten out for GF stuff or if they replaced the wheat entirely

That's what I was getting at- the gluten isn't the issue, so she will be allowed oats, barley and other things that those on a coeliac diet might not be. Definitely a good question for the dietician though as gluten is usually the allergen in wheat, and the reason for avoiding it.

Re: We have to do a 6 food Elimination Diet with Serena for 6 weeks

regarding gluten free and wheat free, I have come across gluten free flours that contain wheat starch and gluten free baked products that contain wheat starch. So you do have to keep your eyes open. Anything that is naturally free from gluten is by definition free from wheat as wheat contains gluten.

Re: We have to do a 6 food Elimination Diet with Serena for 6 weeks

Pippen and Waxy, thanks so much Some great ideas there.

Jamsplat you are right, in just a short 24hrs I am becoming a demon at reading labels, I have spent hours in our local tesco, the security must have me well marked

We are starting tomorrow, think I have got my head around it enough to start it

Went into school today to speak to her teacher and the school chef, who as normal, was wonderful She came up with a few ideas and has said she will cook her some stuff to put in the freezer so she always has something to hand. I have taken oat choc milk in for Seri to have with snack in the morning when she goes in (the other kids are going to be well jel)

Thanks so so much for all your replies and hints/tips

    xx
