Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
Hello...reporting for duty

How are you all getting on? I'm really enjoying Sebastian - he's cries so much less than my girls did. Not sure if this is because of the way he is, or if I'm more relaxed, or he's going to turn in to a different baby tomorrow. Either way, I'm enjoying it!
Tomorrow OH goes back to work, so I'm going to be managing on my own...fingers crossed calm will reign. I've got something to do every day to keep busy, so my 4 year old can keep busy - and I find it easier when I'm out and about with the baby too.
How are your days panning out? Are you all b/feeding still? Getting any sleep?
xx

Morning all! Hope all the other summer babies and mum are doing ok. I think I'm going to ask to be discharged today
I've had three nights in hospital now, although the first one was mostly spent in recovery after the surgery. Second night here was just horrific - she started screaming about 5pm and unless she was attached to a boob she screamed until 5.30 the following morning when she suddenly fell asleep in my arms and I didn't dare move for the next hour (was lying really uncomfortably too) until a midwife came into give me some painkillers and put her in the cot. I rang the bell 12 times that night
I was coevinced that there wasn't anything in my boobs for her and that she was screaming in hunger, but apparently it's one of those things babies do sometimes
DH arranged for the breastfeeding midwife to see me yesterday and she was amazing
sat with me for every feed and showed me a different position (like a rugby ball). I knew the basics of latching but didn't really have a clue beyond that about feeding. So it was loads better yesterday and we had a much more settled night last night. Well, she slept loads - I still only had a couple of hours as every time she squeaked I worried she was about start doing her relentless screaming again. I slept from about 4-6.20am when she midwife woke me up for painkillers. Going to have a bit more sleep in a minute before DH arrives. Do have lots more to say, including a name, but too sleepy now so will finish updating later.

Bubba sweet it will all just click shortly the first few nights with ds I was checking him every 2 seconds that he was breathing not too hot etc etc totally normal and especially do after a traumatic delivery - I had one with ds too
With dd I got my head down as soon as I got the chance even took feeding as a dozing opportunity!
Don't worry about ringing the bell that is why you are given one! Or the screaming from my 2 experiences on the post natal ward she wouldn't have been alone!with dd and ds I was lucky that mine slept but with dd there were 3 babies at it all night
Congratulations look forward to name

Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
Wow so this is where we belong now

Hi Bubbasweet, your time in hospital sounds very similar to mine. Alastair only wanted to be attached to us for the first couple of days. Hope you are getting home very soon. I felt happier at home and more comfortable. Don't worry about the crying- A cried the first night for 3 hours solid- I said to the midwife that I was worried about disturbing all the others and she just shrugged her shoulders saying that it "is the way of a maternity ward"!!
Don't worry about thinking that nothing is coming out of the boobs- my milk didn't come in until the 4th or 5th day and I was convinced that nothing was coming out. Even a few drops of colostrom is all they need. I used the lanosil (sp) cream before and after each feed and my boobs seem to be holding up! Each day you will feel a little bit better after the section- I still feel a little tender and struggle to sit up in bed or sneeze but apart from that I feel ok. Look forward to hearing lots of details later
I turned a corner after they took the stitches out on day 5.
Posie, how is Sebastian? is he still pretty chilled out? Do you have any nicknames for him? We have many for A, 'the poo machine' being the latest!
Superkat how is Charlie? Does he sleep any longer the older he gets?
We had a couple of rough nights here followed by a great night last night so I guess it is a roller coaster journey. I am learning what Alastair needs/wants by the faces/reactions that he shows! Have been out in the park a couple of times and got chatting to some local Mums. Its amazing how many people chat to you with a baby. Had a couple of grannies chasing us in the park asking how old the baby was
Love to all and am pleased to join Summer Mummies at last

Bit of an up and down day, mostly feeding related but the midwife came and explained that she's probably not hungry every time she squeaks at us
So if its only been 30 mins since last feed she said to try a few other things first.
We've decided to call her Alexa Summer.

Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
That's good news bubba, I was sat at the day assessment unit today wondering if you were just upstairs

hope you're okay, would you say your experience with the hospital was one of those things or could've been prevented?
my niece is alexa, it's a beautiful name

Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
Congratulations Bubba - and what a lovely name!! Sorry to hear the birth wasn't quite what you expected, but I've come to the conclusion they never are
You should definitely take the opportunity to find out why everything went as it did - and remember that the most important thing is that you are both safe, and well.
Rugby ball hold was one of my favourite feeding positions after my sections -still use it occasionally with Sebastian, although my let down is now stupidly fast, so I'm sitting him practically upright to try and stop him filling himself up with wind! I'm not sure how big your boobs are, but I'm fairly well endowed and I find putting a rolled up muslim underneath my boob can really help the latch...
Peridot - you'll be here soon. Thinking of you, and hoping you labour spontaneously...in answer to your other thread, I was horribly grumpy the day before my labour started and kept on waking up at 430am dreaming I was in labour...
Amy - Sebastian is still pretty relaxed - and we seem to have fallen in to a nice routine. I did have a harder day today where I was in a bit of a cycle of feeding, and him not sleeping for as long as usual - but I suspect it's the 3 week growth spurt, combined with over tiredness. Having just put him down an hour ago for the evening, he did wake up about 30 mins later - and I let him shout for a few mins (whilst watching him from the chair by his moses basket) and he went back to sleep on his own. phew. Fascinating to watch their sleep patterns - highly recommend it.
Really enjoying this newborn stage...enjoying the snuggles - and he loves baths too! Like you Amy, I'm getting random strangers wanting to snuggle him. Luckily the girls adore him (well, my eldest is mildly indifferent) and I have to keep on asking my youngest to leave him alone!!
Looking forward to hearing more from you all on how you're doing xx

Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
Hey ladies!
Beautiful name Bubbasweet! Hope she is settling in ok. How are you feeling?
Peri, not long now lovely x
Hi Posie, not tried rugby position. Al is getting quite heavy now so having to use a cuishon to feed him.
Id be interested to know everyone's day & night patterns- ours seem like a rolercoaster & no days are the same. I know it's early days but would love some sort of routine. Have started doing a bath in the evening, change, feed but it's in the lap of the gods how long he feeds for & when he passes out !

Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
Amy, you could take a trip to the library and grab some baby books like baby whisperer and contented baby. I think it's very early to rake any of their routines seriously at the mo but they are good for giving you an idea of structuring your day. I found it hard coming from a full time job where I had a to do list to tick off along the way and then have this baby that had no structure what do ever lol! Just helped me try and plan my day a bit.

Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
Ps oscars routine was literally all over the place but with Thomas he used to love a bedtime routine of bath, little baby massage on our bed, feed then sleep, seemed to really help chill him out.
Ahh glad you're enjoying things posie, I can't wait for the newborn stage.. It goes so quickly!

Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
Amy, we're feeding roughly every two hours here, two hours from the start of one to the next, for roughly 15 minutes, so at best it's 90 minutes between feeds by the time we've winded her, checked nappy etc. It's a bit relentless but she's not even a week old so I have no expectations about anything other than not getting very much sleep

Have just sent DH out for a breast pump. I know it's probably not the best thing to do but I'm desperation fir more than an hour's sleep at a time. I've thought about having her in the bed with me but I just don't feel like i can do it. I tried feeding her lying down in the hospital but my boob just smothered her face however we were positioned.

Re: Summer 2012 Babies!!
Peri, I think you are spot on-my work is timed to the second (live tv) so I guess that I struggle when I know no routine! I have the contented baby
book but cannot find it (caused a bit of a row the other day when I asked OH to find it whilst we were both in a state of exhaustion)
Bubba, the best thing that we have is our breast pump- its a Medela. It allows me to express several feeds a day. OH and I have now decided to spilt the nights as we are really knackered. OH goes to bed early and then takes over from me at around 5am. I will feed at 10pm, get a couple of hours, feed at around 12, 2am, usually at 5 and then OH takes over. I get about 2 or 3 hrs between 6 and 9am which is keeping me sane throughout the day.
Hope everyone is well. Xx
