HCG levels with a missed miscarriage?

Sorry its in here but not sure if there is anywhere else more appropriate.

As I posted a couple of weeks ago, it seems I have another missed miscarriage - scan is showing me as 2-3 weeks behind what I think I am. However, the day of the scan I had a blood test and my hcg levels were sky high (60,000) and I had another blood test on Friday which shows at 63,000).

The gynae unit are now saying my hormones are high enough to still be sustaining a successful pregnancy and that my dates are wrong.

I don't think I am. If that was the case then I would have been literally 1 week pregnant when I got my bfp, which of course isn't possible as pregnancy is dated from day 1 of your period so I wouldn't have even ovulated at that time.

I have another scan on Friday but just wondered if anyone has any experiences they knew about/can find online?

    Thanks.
    Mum to M (Aug 07) and D (Nov 08)
and soon to be baby number 3 (due 11th August).

So sorry you are going through this danna.

The only thing I can add is that I was told your hcg levels need to rise by a certain percentage every 2 days, think they need to double. It does sound like yours haven't, and I believe there are other causes of high hcg levels. Sorry, probably not what you want to hear atm. Take care xxx

No that's what I thought too Mrs B but when I said that to the gynae nurse she said that when you get to between 7 and 10 weeks your hormones plateau and stay the same. I'm confused and just want this over with to be perfectly honest.

It reaches a peak at about 10 week of gestation (since last menstrual period). At which time the average hCG levels in samples is around 60,000 mIU/ml.

It could be a Partial molar pregnancy, I think that's when 2 sperm fertilise 1 egg and the foetus doesn't develop properly. That can make you HCG levels go crazy. Have a look here

Crazy HCG levels can also be the sign of an ectopic pregnancy I think?

So sorry this is happening to you, it must be messing with your head so much
