I don't know where he stands tbh. Looking at the receipt it suggests he should get his money back, but shops that are going into administration usually have big signs up and/or mention at point of purchase that nothing can be returned.
I think this is right - unless there are signs up informing customers that they can't make returns, then I don't see how they can refuse

I NEED to see the card. I won't sleep tonight unless I know what it looks like. That's a fact.

Does it have something with it, like a CD or a tenner?

I've got a feeling the shop will have had signs up saying 'NO REFUNDS' etc because of the administration. I think they trump the receipt in those circumstances.

Well here's what it says in the Clinton cards website:

Goods purchased instore maybe returned on the grounds that they are faulty and exchanged for a replacement product(s) or an alternative product(s) of the same value. No cash refunds against returned goods will be given. This does not affect your statutory rights.
So I'm not sure under what grounds he could get a refund?

If goods are faulty then Clintons have to refund by law, so the website is misleading.

No it's not, that's what it says in the first sentence I quoted!

ETA: Oh wait, you mean the "cash refund" bit. I'm not sure of the law on that.

    19 oatcakes?

Unfortunately once a company goes into administration, all bets are off. Here's something else I found:

    Returns and refunds

A company's customer refund policy is unlikely to be upheld once they have gone into administration. This means that you will be unable to claim a refund from the store if an item you have previously purchased is unwanted or faulty.
If the store is still open then you should speak to staff and see whether they are able to issue a replacement. However, if they are unable to do this, or the store is closed for business you will need to place a claim with the administrators. Again, you may be lucky and receive some remuneration for the item but this is by no means a given and depends entirely on the amount of capital the company closed with.
