Is this a scam- call from Microsoft?
So someone from a foreign call centre called me today saying he was from Microsoft and that I had had error messages coming up on my computer and error logs were being sent to them and he wanted to help me with a virus that is on my computer. I told him I wasn't free to talk to him then so he called me back not long ago he showed me where to look to see all the error logs and all the applications that aren't running on the computer and then asked me to downlaod and install teamviwer software on the computer so they can help me at which point I said no I wasn't going to, he put me through to a supervisor but TBH I am not comfortable whith this at all and he really wasn't listening to what I was saying to him and wasn't sure if it was a scam or not. In my head I was thinking if someone else said this was happening to them then I would say scam.
The thing is it could well be true about the error reports as there is the old PC that the boys use to play some games on (already approved by us) so of course if an error came up they would just get rid of it, so scam or not?

Nope, it's a total scam - do not go to the website and do not download anything, it allows them to take control of your computer instantly.

Re: Is this a scam- call from Microsoft?
I have just googled it it appears that it is an old scam too, gosh I am so behind the times!
I have downaloded the software but they don't have the ID or password so I will delete it and tell them to get lsot if they call again.

We get at least 1 of these calls every day (in amongst the PPI claim ones
) and we just tell them we don't have a pc/laptop etc and they hang up!

Re: Is this a scam- call from Microsoft?
We get these calls very often, I have been known to argue with them, lie or most frequently act so stupidly that they give up and go away.

Re: Is this a scam- call from Microsoft?
Someone at work had a similar call only they claimed to be calling from Sky. At first she thought they were genuine as she has her internet through Sky and they knew her surname.
It was only when they asked for £199 for virus software that she hung up.

I always get the Virus on your computer, I reply I shall get it some anti-biotics and they normally hang up.
