That's not very helpful! It's really hard to judge serving sizes on things you've never cooked before, and last ate about 2 years ago. Especially if you then see two different racks for sale, one 3x the size of the other, which one serves 2?

Anyway Asda had racks (if I'd known the approximate weight I could have got that before) and pinto beans (in the canned veg section, not Mexican).

I don't think cannellini would be that nice in refried beans, to be honest, though I agree they are a bit more palatable - he will eat them in a meaty stew.

Now just to go to an 8th shop for the ricotta.

Ricotta is a basic ingredient - I've never struggled to find it in any supermarket or even local Co-op!

This is insane. They have pinto beans and ricotta at my Co-op. And I live in a godforsaken Lancashire hill town.

    Re: BBC Good Food moan

I've just looked at some more ribs recipes on the BBCGF website for you. They are suggesting:

    2kg serves 6
    1.5kg serves 4
    12 ribs serves 4
    1.5kg serves 4
    2kg serves 4

So I would say allow 330-375g of ribs per person, and I'd estimate that to be 3/4 ribs each as I said earlier. Butchers will generally not try to sell you a whole belly or ribs, I've often said I want the non-rib end of the belly, or I want x number of ribs and they just cut what I want.

I live in Hull, which consistently tops the "worse town in the UK" polls (except when Middlesborough stole the title one year ) and I've just been in our local Tesco Express and it stocked all the items, albeit the ribs were frozen.

There's your problem right there, imo

Have you tried looking for those ingredients yourself in the Sainsbury's? I find it astonishing, and frankly very unlikely, that they didn't have any of them!
