Sudden v heavy period, probably way TMI, please advise if you can

I know this is the wrong board but I'm hoping for a quickish response. My periods are always heavy but this morning I've been up for 1 hour and have used 9 super plus lillets, all have been completely soaked through and I've leaked substantially, and when I change the tampon I get a real gush of blood with small clots. I have no pain to speak of just a mild feeling of discomfort. Should I be worried, is there anything I could or should do?

    TIA

Is there any chance of pregnancy? Similar happened to me many years ago where I was soaking through both tampons and pads within half an hour, I just thought it was a very heavy period but later that day/night I realised I'd actually miscarried even though I didn't know I was pregnant :(

Thanks for replying Angel Cake I wouldn't have thought so because DH had the snip a few years ago, I suppose that's not 100% but I would have thought I'd be in pain with a m/c. I'v been googling and it seems it's 'ok' to do this, I'll see how long it lasts...

I do get some very heavy spells at the start of my period however if it goes on all day I'd be tempted to get to an ooh doc to get it checked out - hope you are OK

I would get it checked out if it doesn't slow. A friend had this happen and it turned out to be caused by a polyp that eventually had to be removed. At the very least the Dr should be able to prescribe something to reduce the flow. And some iron tablets!

I think if it's not normal for you it's worth speaking to the doc. TMI bit it's relatively normal for me. There is medication you can take, bit I doubt you'd become anaemic if it's a one-off.

    Thanks ladies

More TMI, about an hour ago I passed a clot the size of a large kiwi fruit and this was followed by a real gush. Almost nothing at all since so hopefully that's the end of today's little adventure.

Normally day 2 of my period is quite heavy, I use super plus lillets and have to change more every 3/4 hour or so, but I've never had anything like this morning before.

That is a very big clot. Especially since this isn't normal for you I think you should speak to a doctor.

For me things gradually got worse and clots got bigger and cause the flooding etc, but they still weren't that big. I think you should just get checked out to be on the safe side. sometimes bleeding stops because there is another big clot blocking the cervix, and if you pass that much blood again it would not be good.

    Take care.

Would definitely agree that it's worth getting checked
