    Re: Am I 'on benefits'?

I'd assume if your DH is not working you won't be entitled, as technically he could be looking after the baby while you earn, studying or not really, I'd love to study but we can'e afford the child care so I can't.

RGK, when he starts childcare Mr S will have finished his course and be looking for work, maybe doing freelance - so we won't get anything based on him being a student - but at the moment he doesn't count as working.
Your entitlement based on one of you working over 24 hours per week, one of you a student/not working would be.

I guess I can't get my head around the idea that unless there was another job lined up, why would you even consider chucking in your current one?
yeah - I guess you aren't coming home from work virtually in tears every night tho... with a management team who know what the problem is but refuse to do anything about it.... I only work p/t anyway, so earn very very little... I would also be looking for work - I wouldn't be sat on my arse....
Come January I'll be in a position to be on a supply agency's books anyway so am forcing myself to put up with the crap till then but we were just investigating whether it would be financially viable.....

actually myzz, I do come home from work and cry, I hate it with a passion. I am tired all the time, snapping at the kids and husband and it is really affecting my homelife BUT i wont jack it in without another job to move to because IMHO, it is totally irresponsible to leave and rely on my DH's income with 4 mouths to feed.

Sweetheart, you therefore know where I'm coming from... If you read my reply to someone NOT in the same situation properly, you will see that actually I'm NOT leaving my job, it was something we looked at to see if we could afford... which we can't (unfortunately...) And btw, my dh was perfectly prepared for me to be doing this - it was his idea as he couldn't bear me being like that anymore.... (esp as I bring home less than 25% of our income...)

I totally feel for you... I actually like my job, (generally) however there is a certain "element" shall we say that is making everyone elses life's hell. (thankfully this has been missing this last week so we've all been quite happy) Management are aware of this & yet are leaving this element in place (despite having moved said element for causing havoc elsewhere...)

hohum... I shall continue as I am till January as I have already said when I'll be able to register for supply teaching. in the meantime, I'm looking virtually every day for other jobs.... shame there aren't any out there...

Fingers crossed for a better job for you Irislili...

    Re: Am I 'on benefits'?

I apologise if my reply to you came across as patronising... that certainly wasn't my intention....

I was just trying to explain (obviously badly) why we were thinking about making a decision that we then decided against...

I'm sorry if I've upset anyone

Actually - it was ME who said I wasn't prepared to leave work if it wasn't financially viable...
