Re: Derby fire - mother and father arrested on suspicion of murder.

Unrelated to this incident, but interesting nonetheless, (well I think it is) he was imprisoned for attempted murder in the 70's. He stabbed someone 11 times. I was shocked to read that.

The only thing I'll say about this, because we really don't know the facts, is that the press conference tears seemed very unconvincing.

Actually, I'll add something else...How are they ever going to have a fair trial with such a wealth of negative publicity going back years.

I had never heard of them prior to hearing about the fire so I had no preconceptions at all, I'm sure there must be others in the same position.

If they are convicted, I suspect they will have to be segregated from day 1.

I had never heard of them either.

I don't watch Jeremy Kyle, yet I knew who they were. They were on that ITV Anne Widdecombe programme about benefits.

My own "armchair detective" thoughts are that the fire could have been set by the parents, but that the father was supposed to be the hero of the hour who broke into the house and rescued the children. Thereby earning him the "hero" accolade, and with the added benefit of being rehoused.

A stunt which, if my musings are correct, went tragically wrong. I don't think for one minute that they envisaged such a horrific outcome.

And I agree with Willow that there was something very unconvincing about the press conference appearance, and the tears. But then I tried to be more understanding, because I cannot imagine how I would react if I were in front of tons of cameras, having just lost my children in such an awful way. But something didn't sit right with the way they presented themselves.

I thought that about the guy when i watched him give that conference, something just seemed "off" when he was talking, he didn't seem genuine, then i felt guilty about thinking that because he had lost his children and of course he'd be upset

I think it's difficult to really comment when we don't know exactly what the police know.

It's hard to fathom why anyone would start a fire knowing there are people/children in the house who are most likely going to be trapped/killed. It's just beyond stupid. It can't have been done on a whim. Why would anyone do it? Just awful

Unconvincing in what way? I think regardless of what has happened and why it happened, they lost 6 of their children in that fire and the grief must be incredible, especially if there is guilt on top.

Whatever their reasons for doing what they have done and how stupid it may have been, im not sure its in the cold blooded killer category if that makes sense?
