    Travelling to Wimbledon

I've just heard that DS and I have tickets for Wimbledon - I'm very excited!!

However, I have no idea about travelling around London so wondered if any London Damsels can help?

We'll actually be on holiday in North Wales at the time and I can get a train to Euston, but then what?

    Thanks
    Bop

Fantastic. Hope you get fab weather.

The best way to plan is the transport for London website: www.tfl.gov.uk

If I remember rightly there is a bus you can get from the tube station but it is really obvious coz so many people are going

I don't know London at all - what is the nearest tube station - is there one called Wimbledon?

    Thanks

    Re: Travelling to Wimbledon

Euston is right across London from Wimbledon so probably allow at least 30 minutes to get across. the TfL site is really helpful

ETA - you could go Euston down to Victoria (Vic line) then Victoria to Wimbledon on the District line. I think the Wimbledon website probably have travel options because the lay on extra buses etc.

I think Southfields tube station is closer. It's been a few years since I went last so my brain is a bit foggy.

I would expect it to take about an hour from Euston - Wimbledon is quite a long way south.

The Wimbledon tennis association website should have travel info too.

    I'm very jealous :)

From Euston, you might be better getting the National Rail train from Waterloo. But your best source of info is the TFL journey planner, though I'd allow at least an hour, probably a bit more.

    Re: Travelling to Wimbledon

OK I've just been looking at tfl and trainline....

We can get a through ticket straight to Wimbledon which costs £13 more - how much would it cost by tube train if I bought that bit on the day? Can I get a ticket ont he day which would include the bus? If I get a through ticket can we stop off somewhere and get something to eat?

We're going on Friday 6th (last Friday, court 1) - how busy will it be coming back - do I need to allow extra time to get across London? Trainline suggest the tube gets in at the same time the train to Wales leaves which feels a bit tight?

Is it walkable from the train station to Wimbledon itself?

For those that have been before....what should I take with us? How long do you think at 10 year old will last? How easy is it to go in and out of the court - do you lose your seats? I'm thinking of getting there for 1pm and then getting a train back from Wimbledon station at about 6pm....

    Thanks

What time is your train? Tube trains just come and go at (usually) regular intervals, 3-4 minutes apart, so you won't need to aim for a specific tube train time as such. Just get on the next one that comes along. You can walk from Wimbledon station to the tennis and it'll be well signed, not to mention probably zillions of others going in the same direction. It's about 10-15 minutes walk.

Children aged 11 and under travel free on London public transport (tube and buses, not 100% sure about trains). You'll need to buy a ticket - day travelcard, £7 ish - I think Wimbledon is zone 3, so you'll need a zone 1-3 travelcard. You'll have to go through the manned gate (luggage/disabled) to get DS into the underground rather than trying to get both of you through one of the normal gates.

    Thanks bubbasweet

Train back is 19.10 from Euston....probably easier to just get the main train ticket and buy myself a travelcard on the day. Would I need ID to prove DSs age - saying that he is tiny so its probably not an issue!

Its going to be a long day - at least he can sleep on the way back.

How exciting! If you're coming in by Tube and plan on walking I would get off at Southfields and walk as it's slightly closer. Just follow the signs/crowds!

If you're planning on going to Wimbledon and taking the special tennis shuttle bus do check if they accept the standard one-day travelcard as I have a feeling they don't and there's a separate charge. An alternative from Wimbledon station is to take a standard red bus (the number 493) which goes to the tennis - bus route link here and your TFL travel card will be accepted.

We live about 10 minutes from Wimbledon so if you get stuck at all just shout
