How much do you spend on your annual family holiday?

The water park in Portaventura is AMAZING! We ended up going 3 times when we went to spain year before last!

Not sure if they still do it but once you had been you could go back for half price with your previous ticket

We usually go away for a week in September/October holidays with my mum and dad, and I'd reckon it comes in somewhere around £800/900 for the week, all in.

I have booked 1 week eurocamp in Brittany £1300. Booked it last sept so have paid £150/month and now is all paid before we go in August. Found the end of the hols much cheaper. If we go on a package hol again I would hope to spend about £2k.

Ours vary quite a bit! For years we went to Haven / caravans and always booked either when they had the half price deals on, or through the Sun so it cost anything from £100 (we usually upgraded from the basic) to about £300 for the caravan plus a few hundred in spends, petrol to get there etc - max £1k probably.

Have also been to Tenerife and Lanzarote for a week, which cost around £1.5k self catering plus maybe another £800 spending money (that would have been for 5 of us).

Now we are 4 again and I'm not sure what sort of holiday we will be able to afford next year

but this year my parents are paying for a family holiday to Majorca for a fortnight all inclusive

I had to pay something towards it, and will need spending money but what I didn't realise is just how much I'd have to spend on clothes for the kids just for the holiday! The holiday itself is costing about £1k per person, no way I could afford 4k for a holiday so we will have to make the most of this one!

I think it's disgusting that the average price seems to be about £2k for a week package holiday in Europe

- that was exactly what we paid inc. flights when we went on our honeymoon to a posh hotel in the Dominican Republic 9yrs ago. I really, honestly don't know how people afford/can justify that kind of money - DH is on reasonable money and we still couldn't justify it (not just for a week that is).

We've bought a tent this year and our holiday will come in at about £2k not including food but including everything else, and more than 25% of that cost is Disneyland Paris which we figured made sense to do while we were going to be in France anyway. Our holiday is a bit of a road trip, going to Paris for a couple of nights, 6 nights camping on the Italian Riviera, up through the mountains for 2 nights camping on Lake Geneva, one night in a hotel in Burgundy then 2 nights and Disneyland Paris and one night in a hotel near Calais before we go home. We've never taken the kids abroad but because we're camping for more than half it's reduced the cost and it means we can go for longer. We're also planning some weekend camping trips in the UK but those won't cost very much hopefully.

The past few years we've stayed free at PIL's cabin on a site in Dorset which was lovely but we didn't get in quick enough this year to get a week during the holidays. I'm guessing we'll do that again next year though with a view to saving for Florida in a couple of years.

Our last holiday cost 6k but that was nearly 2 years ago and IMO it was 'the holiday of a lifetime' maybe not by anyone else's standards but to us it was.

We went to Florida for 2 weeks in October 2010 and that was for 5 of us (I was pg with dd4 at the time)

Were hoping to go back next year but it's unlikely that we'll have a holiday this year.

No, I would too. Half the fun of it is a different restaurant most nights and the absolute gems you can find.

I couldn't stand it either. Love exploring different beaches, restaurants, cafes etc, plus switching from the pool to the beach and back again takes up a good chunk of the day and keeps the kids entertained! And I go to a country to see the area and eat the local food, not stick to bland international stuff mass-produced on site. Sorry if that offends anyone who loves AI, but it's not for us.

We go camping every year for a week or two weeks, somewhere in the UK. Last year we went camping in Cornwall for two weeks - nice but basic campsite, which cost us approx £300 for the two weeks. It was actually more expensive to put our 2 dogs into kennels for the fortnight than it was for us to stay at the campsite! Food costs are about the same to what we'd spend at home - I guess we eat out a bit more, but we're pretty good at being frugal. Other than that, the only other main cost is the petrol.

This year - for the first time in 8 years - we are going abroad! Last summer we won 2 free flights to the USA (

), and we scrimped and saved over the following 10 months to find the money for two more flights, so that all four of us can travel as a family to NYC. The two extra flights + airport taxes are costing us around £1200, and then we're renting an apartment for a week - cost is £650. For us this is a massive, massive amount of money to spend on a holiday, but it seemed like an opportunity not to be missed.
