Re: How much do you spend on your annual family holiday?
I've never really considered how much extra it costs in school holidays, but I'm quite shocked to see how much it all costs
DH and I had a month in Australia a couple of years ago for not much more than some of you are having to pay for a week in the (presumably) European sun
Awful that holiday companies profiteer like that. But I suppose they know people will pay it
Until this year our annual holiday was a winter one, around £2-3k for the pair of us (so that's flights to north America somewhere, accommodation, lift passes, food & drink for 10 days). A bit less if we stay in Europe as it's usually a 7-day holiday, but surprisingly not that much less - we go self-catered in n. America, and half board in Europe.
We also do a couple of camping trips each year, which can be as cheap or as expensive as we want to make it.

Re: How much do you spend on your annual family holiday?
For us, its a lot, last year it was over £11K, I think we had 6-7 holidays, plus weekends away, either here in the UK abroad. I don't just throw money at holidays, I never pay'over the odds' - we are off to france for a month, one week we are staying with friends and we drive to lower the cost.
However, its the only time that we have together as a family, if we are at home either DH is away working for weeks at a time or I'm working from home. All of us enjoy travelling, we really cherish being together.
We do budget for our hols, and it also helps we have no mortgage.......... but that will change when we move house.

Re: How much do you spend on your annual family holiday?
Last year, I think it was about £1600, which was for 3 weeks camping abroad, including overnight ferry, 3 passports, camping fees, extra petrol etc. I haven't counted food in that as we self cater and would spend a similar amount at home. That cleaned us out a bit though, so we're camping in the UK this year and hope to go abroad again another year.
Been busy
and got the start of a big clear out on ebay. Please take a look - it's like an Aladdin's cave!

Re: How much do you spend on your annual family holiday?
ignoring the rather expensive weekend camping that me & dh are doing next month
our holiday this year will come in at around £700... that's for a self-catering cottage in the Lakes sleeping 6, food & excursions (although we're planning a daytrip across the border to see my Mam & she slways buys enough food to feed a small army so I may be able to cut that down somewhat!!)

Re: How much do you spend on your annual family holiday?
Our holiday for this year is a weekend at Pontins through the Daily Star and has worked out at £160 for the 6 of us. We are starting to save up now to go abroad next year as it has been two years since we had a holiday of any kind and eight years since we had a proper holiday
I really resent being held to ransom by the holiday companies though which is why we haven't been away
I just feel robbed before I even get on the plane

Re: How much do you spend on your annual family holiday?
So much depends on what you do/ where you go. We are going to some remote part of Wales (near the Brecon Beacons and only 30 mins from lovely beaches) and the accommodation is 5* self-catering and under £500 for the week for all 5 of us - there is even a spare double room that we are putting up my best friend and her OH for the night in (they live nearby but this way they can drink!)
Then in aug we are going to Scotland, the accomodation isn't *too* bad at about £800, but then we have decided to fly as can't face 12 odd hours in the car
and of course that also means a hire car too...
no matter how far you have travelled down the wrong road, you can always turn around.
