    Central York hotel recommendations?

I've been looking at the Hilton, but can anyone recommend any others? Must have room service, be in the city centre (not too far from the station) and WiFi would be good, too. Not fussed about parking etc though.

We've always stayed at the Hilton but Cedar Court is very popular. The Hilton is about a 10/15 minute walk from the station but it feels more if you've got heavy bags. I will say it's not the most luxurious Hilton we've stayed in.

The Cedar Court is lovely and well worth investigating.

The Park Inn is very central too, but not quite as 'special' as the Cedar Court.

Just seen your other thread - the Cedar Court has a very nice spa too, which might be just what you're looking for!

Also, there's a Hotel du Vin which is just on the edge of the city centre and close to the train station.

    Re: Central York hotel recommendations?

I'd spotted the Spa - and also noticed that the hotel is quite booked up (no availability for the dates I looked at) which made me think it must be nice!

Off to look at the Hotel du Vin.

    It's lovely - a real treat.

York gets very, very busy when the races are on so you might find you struggle to get accommodation if you're planning on coming on a race weekend - http://www.yorkracecourse.co.uk/

Also the Royal York is next to the station and close to the city centre, but IMHO it's not quite as lovely as it once was. Very accessible and well-located though.

Thanks for that link - I wasn't looking at weekends at all, or any dates when there is racing going on, but I can be quite flexible, I just need to decide. I only really have between 13 June and 27 July, otherwise it will have to wait until September (as DS1 will be home for the summer!).

I see! I speak from bitter experience as we got married in York, on a race weekend, and it made it very difficult for our guest to get accommodation (I still haven't forgiven myself) so I get a bit paranoid about it!

Thanks for pointing it out, Saffy - I had noticed on one of the hotel websites lots of info about special race weekend prices! My SIL got married on a day that there was a massive carnival and parade through her local town which caused all sorts of problems

Funnily enough I've just had this hotel recommended to me.

So far the Cedar Court is winning - mostly because they will bring a full English breakfast to my room oh and it looks lovely!
