30-day contact lenses
Hi

Has anyone tried the 30-day contact lenses that you leave in for the 30 days? I am thinking of trying them, I normally wear my glasses but I find it a faff in the summer with switching between my glasses and my prescription sunglasses.
I was worried about them being unhygienic but then someone told me they are better than daily disposables as you are not putting a dirty finger in your eye twice a day.
Are they more/less comfortable than daily disposables?

Re: 30-day contact lenses
I haven't tried the thirty day ones, but I have lenses that I put in at night, then take out during the day. Very useful during the summer for swimming, sunglasses etc!
It's called orthokeratology. They're fab!Call me (Mrs) Damz

Re: 30-day contact lenses
I didn't have to pay out a lot of money in a lump sum, or I wouldn't have got them either!

I signed up for EyePlan and paid my optician monthly. That covered the cost of the eye tests, fittings and lenses.
That stopped after about a year, I think, and now I just pay for replacement lenses every year or two, plus a normal eye test.Last edited by Damsella; 21-05-2012 at 12:55pm.

If I had answered this post a month ago I would be raving about how much I love wearing 30 day lenses and how I've been wearing them for 5 years now with no problems but I've recently had a scare that has put me off them.
I felt like I had a bit of grit or something in my eye so took my lense out and just happened to be passing the optician later that day so called in as it was still uncomfortable. I was sent straight to the emergency eye clinic and there was told I had a corneal ulcer. I was lucky I caught it early and it responded well to treatment but I was given a huge lecture by the dr about the dangers of wearing the lenses constantly. He told me they shouldn't be worn overnight etc
I was a bit defensive as my optician recommended them to me based on the fact they were continual wear ones.
Anyway, I've kept them out for a few weeks now and will only wear them for a day at a time. Im disappointed because I loved the ease of them but I can't risk my eyesight!

I've used them for years now, with no problems at all. I recommend them to anyone who will listen!

I don't like the idea of them - are they very thin, lost of water in them? The way I understand it your eye needs to breathe and it does this without the lens at night. The higher the water content, the more the eye can breathe.
I've never heard of the ones Damz is talking about - must have a look.
I use dailies, have done for about 8 years now, yes, expensive, but my eyes are much healthier.
