    Grammar Question!

    Dads & Lads Pool night

    or

    Dad's and Lad's Pool Night

I think the former but DH has put the latter!

    Thanks

    Dads' and Lads'

Although I'd just go with your version, and not bother with apostrophes at all.

Your DH's is wrong, unless there is only one dad and only one lad!

Yes, this! It is a night that "belongs" to the dads and lads, so that's where the apostrophe goes

I'd go with Dads and Lads, along the lines of Tarts and Vicars, iyswim. Possibly not strictly correct but somehow I prefer the look of it.

Hopefully more than one - otherwise it will be a pretty crap fundraiser

I guess we were both wrong then - thanks

    Re: Grammar Question!

Ah but the night does not belong to real Tarts and Vicars whereas unless it is a bunch of women pretending to be Dads and Lads (and hence the night is just "about" Dads and Lads) it is not the same as Tarts and Vicars.

I am reminded of the time that Mr S was asked to insure the Smalltown FC Supporter's Club and he asked whether they really needed insurance as there was only one member...

    Re: Grammar Question!

AFAIK, and I did have a check on this around the Internet, it is Dads and Lads.

Adding the apostrophe is for possessive notation, IE:

    Two dads talking (no apostrophe)

My dad's car (indicates dad owns the car).

This is really hard to read but does try to explain: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/conten...ossession.html

I know it's pedantic but it's still funny!

    What about this bit?

We intend to run a qualifying round with the Stephen Hendry’s progressing to the Champions League and the Hendry Stephen’s battling it out in the Europa League.

I think no apostrophes there. There's nothing possessive
