Re: Skin flare ups - most soothing products?
Im not saying don't go to the doctor as it is always good to get it checked out. I get more rashes etc if I have candida (overgrowth of yeast) or if my iron levels are low.
I also get blepharitis which is an infection on the eyelids and the GP never diagnosed it, the optician did and now i need to use special wipes to clear the muck, blepharitis feels like you have sleep in your eyes all the time.Mummy to Three girlies.......DD1 9yrs........DD2 4yrs..........DD3 is 1yr old!

Re: Skin flare ups - most soothing products?
Epaderm and I find E45 close enough for portable use. If I don't need greasy deep moisturising I am able to tolerate Avene - I use a wipe off cleanser, with a splash of water afterwards if my skin is ok and not too dry, and light face cream. I have been using a balm I think Bria -
http://www.briaorganics.co.uk/
On my hands with gloves (crabtree and evelyn silk ones) over the top at night. It has greatly reduced my use of steroids and improved the dryness. Not sure about use on face in as much as it'd make me break out as I'm dry but can get spots. I can't use Dream Cream I get worse from it.
Looking at posts above I must say I can't use any shampoo but E45 shampoo as it makes the skin on my hands so bad, so I imagine other shampoos running onto your face could cause problems too.

Re: Skin flare ups - most soothing products?
thanks for asking Purple Lady.
I haven't really noticed any improvement
I'm slathering on the coconut oil during the day as often as possible, and also continuing to use Epaderm first & last thing, but it still keeps drying out. So I've made a Dr appt for next Monday (next time I'm not at work) just in case they can help.
I take on board everything peeps are saying about shampoo, but I don't think that is irritating it. When that has bothered me in the past, I have had sore areas around the back of my neck etc, this is only on my face - mainly eyelids, top of cheekbones, and under the chin.
I actually think just washing in plain water is making it worse! But I can't really avoid that one.
Anyway, will persevere with all things moisturising until Monday, and see how I get on at the Docs. Am getting used to not wearing make up now

Re: Skin flare ups - most soothing products?
Ah thats a shame the coconut oil hasnt improved it. Ive heard good things about coconut oil but never tried it as too busy trying other stuff lol.
Been having a real battle with my baby's eczema, ive literally tried everything and the GP wont refer her to a specialist. However last time at the GP they told me to try piriton and use eumovate gel and its really helped.
Have you tried any antihistamine stuff yet?
Good luck for your GP apt x

Re: Skin flare ups - most soothing products?
You know that antihistamines can really dehydrate you - are you drinking lots of water to compensate? Because that can have an impact too...
You can slap on as much as you like on the outside, but if you're not hydrating your insides too it won't have much impact.

Re: Skin flare ups - most soothing products?
I get eczema on my face only when I am very tired and/or very run down. It was v bad when DD was a baby - I had it under my eyes and on eyelids and under my nose (like glasses and a small moustache shape!) and my lips/corner of mouth. I couldn't really wash my face but I found just leaving it be (no products, no water - I know it seems yuck) it seemed to have some sort of equilibrium (i.e. neither dry nor spotty/greasy) better than when I tried stuff for dry skin or whatever. Once it cleared up, I found Avene the only thing I could use on it.
On my hands (ongoing) I have had such a different with the Bria. It's so imossible to keep my hands constantly moisturised through the day - just not practicable, but wearing gloves over the Bria at night seems to give me enough moisture to get through the day. I'd say I have slight dryness but no actual itchy break outs. I'd really recommend it.
