Getting babys appetite for dinners back after illness
My DS2 was ill about a month ago, and then suffered from secondary lactose intolerance which seems to be ok now although I am still wary. While ill, I put him on BRAT diet, and in all honesty, he doesnt really want to go back to anything else.
He loves sandwiches (various fillings), toast, fruit pots, breadsticks, bananas, raisins, but he just refuses to eat other things he ate before like cereal, fish, chicken, potatoes (even chips), pasta etc. He refuses to be spoon fed anything dinner like, cries and bucks and throws everything he doesnt want on the floor. I am losing all inspiration to improve his eating as he really has gone backwards with no signs of improving.
I have got him to eat cottage pie by smearing it on pieces of bread, but I know this isn't really the way to go.
I think he is too young (13 months) to just not give him an alternative to dinner.
Any advice very welcome, as I was so pleased I didnt have a picky eater this time round

Re: Getting babys appetite for dinners back after illness
If you look at his whole day, how balanced isit? I'd try not to worry about variety too much but balance at this point. Thenthe food groups that hes missing introduce slowly in small quantities. Breakfast is a good time to get them back on something (theory being they're hungry); if he's low on protein give him an egg, if he eats it great - give him bread etc. If he doesn't eat it try a different protein etc.

What about augmenting the things he will eat with new bits, especially old favourites.
IME after illness their appetite does eventually come roaring back.

Re: Getting babys appetite for dinners back after illness
Just a thought - several years ago i ended up in hospital with food poisoning/gastroenteritis. It took about 2months for the nausea to go, the last few weeks I was taking daily probiotics. Probiotics might help? When dd2 was on antibiotics for 6m I gave her a sachet of one called Lepricol from the health food shop. I'm usually not very alternative but i fully believe in probiotics. Actimal/muller drinks would help too.
