Horse Riders - Advice on Kids Helmets

Hello, I'm not a rider so have no idea about these things but DD (5.5 yrs) has weekly lessons.

We always struggle to find a riding hat to fit her properly at the stables so I wanted to get her one of her own. I'm having a look online and there are some helmet types for kids that are adjustable (like a cycle helmet).

Are there any particular kids helmets you'd recommend above others? Are the adjustable ones OK safety-wise?

Find a proper saddlery shop and get it fitted. It needs to be British safety standard kite marked. A good stable won't let you ride without the bss kitemark.

I wouldn't touch anywhere else. Online is to risky as you need to try the fit. Decathlon I once found selling non- kitemarked helmets, and when questioned they just said they sold according to French standards, and thought that was fine despite not being up to British standard. So in addition to being not as safe, waste if money if your stable requires a kitemark!!

I've never come across adjustable ones. Tbh riding helmets are completely different to cycling so I'd have do do a whole lot of research before getting one.

As long as you get a properly fitted one with a bss kitemark you'll be fine.

Thanks Faith. I know our stables won't let you ride without the kitemarked helmet. With kids their heads grow so quickly so I'd like to try one of the adjustable ones on her, just need to find a riding store locally!

My Kids have the Just togs ones they have a adjustable dial at the back and are kitemarked :) Easier for me as sometimes one will ride home then another will ride back up to the yard and we keep all our tack up at the yard so easier if they can swap and share hats.

As Faith said, its the one thing I would only buy from an equestrian shop and I would get it properly fitted.

DD wanted a classic style but they just didn't suit her head shape so she has a skill cap and silk.
