URGENT - how long in oven for 2 x 10 inch sponge cakes?
Hi everyone! I am making luca's birthday cake at the moment (well I will be when my MIL finally turns up to take him off my hands) and i'm making a victoria sponge so cooking 2 lots of the mixture in two cake tins and combining afterwards.
How long should I cook these for? Recipe says 20-25 mins but I imagine it would be longer for 2 tins?

It's hard to give a time, but that sounds roughly right for the cakes I make. Every oven is different though so I would check at 20mins, try not to open the door before or you could have a cake fail on your hands. Test it by either inserting a skewer into it (will come out clean if cake is ready) or by pressing gently on the top, when it's ready it should bounce back.
Normally my cakes take about 25 mins to cook, but can sometimes be a few minutes over.
ETA What do you mean by cooking two lots of the mixture? Normally with a Victoria sponge recipe you just make the mixture and divide between the tins.

Yes that's what I've done - divided it into two tins but my friend who gave me the cake tins told me to cook both tins at same time for 40 mins.

Seems an awful long time for a Victoria sponge. I always cook both at the same time but for 40mins they'd be really over-cooked in my oven. Think the best thing to do if you are unsure is keep a close eye on them.
If you look at these recipes they're both only 20 mins cooking time http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1...toria-sandwich and http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/516400

Yes I thought it was too long. It was done in 25 mins in the end, looks golden and springy to touch to fingers crossed it's ok! Thanks xx

If it's golden and springy it should be fine!
