Re: What is your job?
Right now, I am sales administrator for a small engineering company. It is sooooo quiet, which is nice for a while, but after nearly 10 years I've had enough

In 2 weeks and 4 days (counting? Moi??) I leave here to become Senior Administrator at a company which handles those "send for your free book/DVD/whatever" offers you see in the national papers.
I have 7 old-fashioned O-Levels and 30+ years in the University of Life (and a friend who put in a good word for me!!

Re: What is your job?
Subsea Planner for an oil and gas operator.
I started off as a planning assistant for a diving company (I'd applied after being a secretary at the same company for a few years). I stuck that for a couple of years and moved to another subsea company for a couple of years. I got paid off and had some time off then worked for an operator before moving to a topsides (platform work above the water) offshore construction company. I was then called by the original diving company asking me to go work for them again. I did that for the next 8 years planning subsea construction projects. They paid me off during my second lot of maternity leave. Eight months later I was interviewed and got my current role and I've been there for 2½ years on a freelance basis. My DH has a Ltd company so he invoices them for my time every month and employs me/pays me a salary.
I'm based on a project and spend time dealing with management and subcontractors and producing lots of reports and one large presentation every month. It is interesting to me
and very well paid
. If you are good with figures, logic and spreadsheets, you're creative and can confidently deal with all sorts of folk I think planning is a great career. Lots of different industries employ planners/schedulers and there is (certainly for oil and gas) a huge shortage of us...hence the great pay.
About half of my plannning colleagues have degrees and lots of others like me got there by building experience up.

Re: What is your job?
After I finished college I ended up working in it for a year then fell into telecommunications through a temp agency. Worked my way up to being a test and diagnostics engineer and international traffic management. After my 2nd child I took a career break and now work part time in the local supermarket. I have work all over the shop but now I'm mainly responsible for stock taking, gap checks and ordering. Never thought I'd end up working in a supermarket but I'm actually really enjoying it. Beats sitting behind a desk 9-5, every day is different with different challenges.

Re: What is your job?
Microbiologist, I did a degree in microbiology.
I like my job but would prefer to be a SAHM.
Microbiology isn't a well paid area, I wish I'd done pharmacy or pharmacology.

Re: What is your job?
I am a community pharmacist and I detest my job, a monkey could do it. I predominately hate it as I can not get a job where I am from and had to move to England and then subsequently to the Republic of Ireland to obtain employment closer to Belfast.
The job in england was extremely stressful, unsociable hours, methadone addicts shouting at you on a daily basis, not pleasent. Now I have moved to a store that is so quiet I think I am gong insane some days.
I would to retrain as anything, a useful career i.e, nursing or medicine.
Pharmacy is not a great career and it will be even more difficult to obtain employment in the future, due to excessive number of pharmacy places at univeristy.
Sorry having a very bad day.
